Affiliate Marketing or Dropshipping?

I am wondering which route I should go in to start off. affiliate marketing or dropshipping?

I have never really done either, but I know this is where a lot of money is.

Now, don't get me wrong, though I have not done either of these, I am quite savvy online and know quite a few things, and highly always coming up with great ideas. So, which one should I go after? And please link up any good resources for me too get me started in the right direction. Thanks,

I would go the Affiliate marketing route. With drop shipping you have to work with distributors. You will have to see if you can be competitive in the retail market.

Years ago I tried to get in the PC hardware and software business and go toe to toe with Newegg.com. To put a long story short I went through 7 different distributors, and to be find out it was impossible.

    Without question, affiliate marketing.

I'm not the biggest fan of dropshipping and it certainly isn't beginner-friendly.

    I agree with Chris.

With DS you pretty much need an exclusive distributor. Any DS company that offers DS to the public is a waste of time. For beginners, affiliate marketing is far easier to see some success.

Affiliate marketing requires list building as well as a number of other marketing skills that a newcomer might not have. If you are just starting out, you will be better served by finding a place to sell products and simply dropshipping from your source. In this way, you won't have to worry about building a list or learning a trade.

dropshipping effectively sounds way harder then affiliate marketing. learning curve to both and applicable prior skills is how I would choose and I have chosen affiliate marketing all the way, less headaches

I feel like this is true, but Drop Shipping seems like there is more money to be made, or higher % earned per sale. I could be wrong though.

Do you want to deal with physically shipping items or would you rather have digital products?

I think the easy answer here is going with Affiliate Marketing.

Although there is money to be made in both fields, I just don't see the point in drop shipping.

Another possibility would be to offer digital products via download, not just promoting Clickbank products. It's just as easy to promote your own digital products and have your customers pay through Paypal than presell on your page and then send them to another page. That could be an easier option for a beginner, assuming they have a good sales page. Though again, list building would be a good idea.

Drop shipping can be high risk. If your third party provider fails to deliver on time then it can damage your reputation. Affiliate Marketing is much simpler to get to grips with, although tricky to master all the best I wish you well

Hey as most have suggested affiliate marketing would have to be the easiest way to get started. You will find lots of info on the forum of how to do it and later on down the track after some success you may like to go the dropshipping route. All the best on your journey

  • I personally would recommend affiliate marketing. Especially for newbies. I think it is by far the easiest to do, and you don't even need a website in most cases.

Maybe if you want to expand when you have more experience you could try the drop shipping. But, I think it would be really hard to compete with the online retail giants of today.

Dropshipping is good but it will take time. There's a lot of work involved when dropshipping. I do DS from Amazon to eBay and it works fine.

Once you've got the listing up, you just keep re-listing the item over again.

What I'm talking about though is retail arbitrage and you need to be able to find different places across the web where you can sell higher on ebay.

And when people say theres no money in ebay, you can still sell a lot of items without being the cheapest choice.

I'd do affiliate marketing for sure. I've tried so many dropshipping sites (especially when the PS3 and Nintendo Wii was HOT)... and they don't offer items at *wholesale* prices. And if they are legit wholesale items... they're for reject products. It's a stupid business. And you gotta market and ship orders off - and pay high dropshipping fees in the process. Do yourself a favor and do affiliate marketing. You'll live longer.

Affiliate marketing is like chess...easy to learn, hard to master. This makes it appear attractive and simple. However, in my opinion to be 6 and 7 figure successful with Affiliate Marketing you will need to learn list building, email marketing, JV networking. All of these things take time to master.

You said dropshipping but you should have said Amazon FBA. It is much easier for a beginner to get into that and make money. true dropshipping involves forming relationships with manufacturers that you generally have already ordered product from and have a history with.

Anyways if you are looking for instant results I would start selling through Amazon FBA. I can't think of a faster way to make money with very little experience. While you are doing that though, I would focus on mastering things like list building, and email marketing because there is really no ceiling to what you can earn with those skills.

As a beginner with no knowledge yet, i suggest affiliate marketing over DS.

Take your time learning and understanding things before you actually do the implementation part. Time is precious. Good luck.

I've tried dropshipping as well & find it easier to just have a website with an Amazon store. The key is to make it full of high & low priced items in order to get the highest commission rate

Drop shipping*is a*supply chain management*technique in which the*retailer*does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers*customer*orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a*wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. As in*retail businesses, the majority of retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price but some retailers earn an agreed percentage of the sales in commission, paid by the wholesaler to the retailer.

From a personal perspective I would say that Affiliate Marketing is the easier of the two to get started with.
If you are not a US, Australian, Canadian or European Citizen you may find barriers to entry that can be circumvented but take time and money to set up.

Profitability will be dependent on what you are promoting as an affiliate or selling as a dropshipper but you are likely to get higher returns with dropshipping.

If you are interested in dropshipping I would look at Anton Krilly's Dropship Lifestyle Course. There are a ton of guys living up here in Chiang Mai, Thailand who are running successful Dropshipping stores following his methods so I can vouch for it being a solid course.

I have several dropshipping stores and I can tell you, since you have never done either I would start out with affiliate marketing for sure. You will learn a lot before moving into dropshipping.

True there is money to be made but it is not as automated compared to affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketin requires helpin others achievin Financial Freedom. If you can make life of 5-6 people easy then u hav solved all ur money problem. It takes time and commitment though bt its only one time effort and then u'r financially free for ur life.
I dont know much about drop shippin but i guess u need to continuously sell in order to earn commisions. once u stop selling ur commisions stop. but in affiliate marketin in right company a team of 5-6 will give passiv monthly income. hence i would suggest affiliate marketin. wish u luck

I agree with zerofatsreturns that Amazon FBA is probably the easiest way to go if you are going to be doing any online selling. Dropshipping can be a bit tough and dicey if you don't know what you are doing and affiliate marketing... well... it's not as easy as most people make it out to be. I've seen a lot more people have success using Amazon FBA than those trying to do affiliate marketing or dropshipping. The only problem with FBA is that you generally need to be in a country that has fulfillment centers.

I may be missing something, I don't understand why you can start both at the same time. Do affiliate marketing and drop shipping, along side each other.

With everything online, start small and once you have proof that it works scale it up from there. I have done both and made money from both, but if I had to chose only one I would go for affiliate marketing.

Very broad question, but it is not about drop-shipping vs affiliate marketing its about

    -choosing a market
    -choosing a product
    -understanding how to get traffic

Also it is about understanding what you are comfortable with in terms of marketing. Do you want to be the middle man and sell through arbitrage, do you want to learn how to use automated software to generate traffic, do you want to use offline tactics, do you want to make income passively.

You should understand these questions and be able to answer them in a intelligible way, and then whether or not you choose dropshipping vs affiliate is secondary

I would say start off with affiliate marketing. That way you can get your feet wet and get an understanding of how to market and promote products online. With affiliate marketing you technically only have one job and that is to drive traffic to the vendors website.

All sales, refunds and customer issues are handled by the vendor. As a dropshipper you will have much more responsibility. Its a great business model, but I would suggest starting with affiliate marketing.

Both can be done in a hard way, and both can be done in simple ways. But in my opinion (and under the right guidance), if you are comfortable interacting with potential client especially on the phone, you might get faster results with dropshipping in case you are considering a long term business.
