All this Jaw-Jacking about WSOs

.... and their new set of rules.

There are some aspects of the new rules that I agree with and others that a I don't agree with. Know what though? Whether or not I agree with these new rules, whole or in part matters not.

Why?

Because at the end of the day my opinion of the matter is of no consequence to the forum or the market it supports.

Here's my advice to anyone serious about their business:

Adaptation is important. One must adapt their offers to work with certain advertising venues. At the end of the day, that's all this forum is with respect to the WSO section..... an advertising venue.

As a seasoned Internet marketer with a decade of skin in the game, I've run my fair share of WSOs. Ive also run other offers in so many other venues I can't possibly recall them all.

Why?

Because it is unheard of and unrealistic to expect that any ONE source (or advertising venue) will work FOREVER with any particular offer. This could be due to one of many a variable.

Such variables might include....

1. A discontinuation of the venue (like if, for example, they said "to hell with it" and turned off the WSO forum).

2. A policy change in a venue that renders an offer noncompliant with the venue's TOS.

3. An offers "blinds" a particular venues traffic and becomes ineffective.

Any ONE of the above scenarios would cause an advertiser to lose money and theyd need to seek other places to advertise or otherwise adjust their offer.

It's part of doing business.

Diversity is also part of doing business. As such, it is my belief that only those relying SOLEY on the WSO forum for 100 percent of their traffic and revenue are the ones in real trouble.

If that's you, my advice........

Adjust your offer to get compliant. You have no other choice if you want to continuing advertising here.

Seek out other like places to advertise and begin testing them. At any one time, I have 10 different ads running in 10 different places at minimum. That's not by accident. That's what Ive learned is "safe" over the years.

The above is really, other than my own amusement, WHY I really don't care about the new WSO rules that much. If I never run a WSO again, the impact on my business would be minimal - and completely countered within days.

That is why you should diversify your traffic in 2015 - having no more than 10% of your traffic coming from any one place (to include the WSO forum).

So why bother starting a new thread about it then?

I think he wanted to express himself, and he had something useful to say. I appreciated it.

Because if you read past that point....... you'll run into some valuable advice. It's advice many here, even if you're not one of them, need to hear.

Right. You'd be shocked at the number of those who haven't. I've had many a student I've had to hammer this into.

There are a lot of one trick ponies around who's entire business rises and sets with the WSO forum. That's a recipe for disaster. It is akin to all those people who got wiped out over night by Google updates because all their eggs were in that basket.

Odd. This is a forum. Some of us do provide feedback and rules, including the new rules, have been modified based on the feedback. Do you think the rules were initially created out of thin air without considering the desires of members and the market? If so, you're wrong. Moderators and the new owners have been responsive to issues raised by members.

You're doing yourself, and the forum, a disservice by remaining quiet about what you like and don't like.

It goes beyond the WF. As an affiliate I provide feedback to merchants. I just sent a suggestion to Amazon. As a seller, I always want feedback (good and bad) on my products. Give the forum more credit than claiming your opinion does not matter.

      Hi Brian,

I see your point. I actually agree with you in the value of providing feedback, and having it considered. I agree that the admins have done a good job considering "us" when making their moves.

I think the rules are based on a mix of their experience and our feedback.

For me it's about control and at the end of the day, as considerate as they may be, they haveto make decisions that are best for the forum. I don't fault them here.

Likewise, one has to make decisions that are best for their business. They don't control their destiny enough unless they've diversified their traffic sources - and not relying on just WSO threads.

Diversity in traffic translates to more control over your business. That's the point I desire to illustrate.

You should always have multiple places getting you traffic. If you only work with one, what are you going to do if you can't use it anymore?

There are so many "hidden" places that you can market online. You just have to research and test all sorts of places.

People will get used to it and move on. Given WF's huge reach and volume, there's no other game in town. The new rules actually make sense from a corporate liability exposure standpoint. Regardless of whether I agree or not, people will move on and the whining will die down ... until the next set of rule changes. It's always been like this.
