First Post and Finding my way to quit my Work.

Hi everyone!

I've been working for many companies for years, and since the begining I' ve always wanted to work for myself, building my own business. I am finishing my MBA, and I think I have enough skills to achieve this.

Now I've been reading a lot about Internet business, and I am realizing that this is a very interesting, complex and demanding business, which is great for me. I am trying to develop a strategy to achieve at least $2000 per month online, so I can quit my job, and develop my businees full time. In a nutshell, this is my original 3 front strategy:

- Enter into the website flipping business: I choose this, because I know I can create websites very easily, and i can learn a lot about how people gain money from these sites. I even bought Mark Santiago's course to have a better insight of this. What worries me a lot of Website flipping is that, from my research, it's not very lucrative in this times.

- Selling good via Internet and ebay: This is a no brainer, and I have access to very interesting stuff to sell.

- Forex Marquet: One close friend is very into this, and he is teaching me, so I can gain a few bucks from here.

What do you think? Do you think this is a good place to start? I am specially worried on the first point....

I'd feel a lot more confident for you if you had a well-researched, tried-and-tested, proven, one-front strategy than a three-front one.

The fact that you're completing an MBA (and presumably did a "first degree" before that?) certainly shows that you can "learn a lot", but so can many other people. What proportion of them are successful at entering the website-flipping business? Being able to create websites easily is obviously a plus, but is it enough to build a business and make a living?

Well, that sounds like it has potential, but if it's such a no-brainer, why do you need the other two things, to go with it? Won't they be a huge distraction?

Maybe, though the proportion of people entering the forex markets as retail traders who ever develop consistent profits from it is very tiny indeed. I have no experience of website-flipping or Ebay, but this is the one thing you've mentioned that I do happen to know quite a bit about, since it's my father's profession and also something I've been doing myself very regularly and profitably for many years. I agree that it's possible to make steady profits from this, but you'll certainly need to be very well-taught, fairly well-funded, and have a lot of experience before it becomes steadily profitable. If your friend has enough expertise and successful experience, then you may have chances with this one as long as your methods aren't "indicator-based".

    Good luck!

I think pick up one business model ASAP whether it is eaby , affiliate business model , adsense or flipping site .Anything which you get comfortable and take massice action.

You will learn lots by putting action not by researching stuff.I have wasted lot of time studying all the business models.I wish i pick one and stick with that business model for 6 months at earlier stage of internet marketing carrier .

Your 3 point model is quite diverse i.e. they are quite different strategies.

This may be because you are trying to minimize the risk of failure. My suggestion would be to embrace on these ideas first and do it really well.

So for example why not set your mind to become the best Site Flippa there is?

Focusing on one idea at a time always works better for me

I think you can combine whatever you'll do with email marketing. building a list is the ultimate traffic source you can have...

And if you go into selling goods business i'd go with personalised goods since they are easy to market.. tee shirts, phone cases etc...

The biggest mistake I made starting out was that I didn't understand the value of having a list to sell to. This cost me years of making very little income jumping from one great idea to the next. When I did finally get around to building a list I found that it took much more focus than I thought it would. There was quite a bit to it. Writing a good email series, list segmentation and the most important thing of all.. traffic.

I wish I had taken list-building more seriously when I started out. It would have led to much faster success.

I think that you should try one strategy at a time. You are going to get overwhelmed if things do go your way and you are making money and vise versa. You might try to do all 3 and not make any money. For me, I would take one strategy and give it all. Once you are making the kind of income you are looking for and your business is working well for you on auto-pilot, then you can jump into something else.

In the mean time, you should have a job so that you do have some cash flow and are not short on cash.

Someone with an MBA should probably already know this but I'd recommend focusing on just one idea and seeing it though. Having too many things going on together is distracting and means you'll not be able to give your full efforts to each one.

Building a business is HARD and although lots of people on here think $2k a month is easy, it's not. You'll need 100% focus, discipline, determination and a bit of luck plus probably months and months of hard work just to get to $2k a month consistently.

The key to making IM or any business online working is to:

MAKE IT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE.

This should apply to all aspects of this business such as:

      1. Getting traffic
      2. Building a list
      3. Sending offers to your list
      4. Setting up a recurring billing program

I am going to speak on affiliate marketing. Have a list. It will cost you no question. Understand this reality. Avoid shiny object syndrome. Build a list and never stop doing so.

But these same rules apply to product vendors.

Do not think of quitting your job, instead learn the fundamentals of internet marketing
you can do it part time until you establish yourself. It is said over 95% of Internet Marketers
fail, so it is important to take baby steps.
