It could be anything really. A landing page is just a page where your visitors 'land'. It could be your front page, it could be squeeze page or it could be a sales page.

A squeeze page is just a specific type of landing page.

A landing page is a very important page though because usually it is the first (and possibly ONLY) impression you can make on your visitor. And you only get 1 FIRST impression so it has to be good.

Hope that explains it a bit.

my understanding has been that you use a landing page to capture prospects details by offering them something of value that you are giving them for free in exchange for their details. Best not to confuse them by trying to sell them something as well.

That is the definition of a squeeze page Ian; this is where you squeeze info out of a visitor by offering him a bribe (something that has perceived value).

It is completely depends on "What exactly you want visitors to do on a landing page". Purpose of designing a landing page can be vary, However here are few points one should always keep in mind while designing a successful landing a page...
    • Unique selling proposition (USP)
    • A concise and persuasive overview
    • Rich media showing context of use
    • A list of benefits and/or features
    • Testimonials and indicators of social proof
    • Directional guide to user for direct interaction
    • A seductive call to action (CTA)

One more thing ...Do not put links of other services on your landing page, It will divert potential traffic and will also confuse visitors. Be precise and focused on landing page Objectives.

    I hope it will help....

Actually, it was first termed a "squeeze" page because the true squeeze only has two options, take it or leave it. There are no other links or navigation on the page.

Just my personal opinion, but squeeze pages are a dying breed. If you want to have any hope of real people that are truly interested in you and your offers, you need to pre-sell your page before they get there. Social networking, forum marketing and blog posting are some examples.

Absolutely. Your landing page, be it squeeze, sales or other is just one step in a chain that begins when someone becomes aware of you and ends (if you do things right) with the last thing that person buys from you.

One also has to keep in mind that the permission gained from an opt-in can be taken back at any time, so permission must be continually earned. When someone opts in to your list, you have the privilege of continued contact, not the right.
