Advantage of Paid WP Themes

I'm starting a network of blog sites in different niches and have been searching for a solid theme to run across them... Man there are a lot of themes out there and everybody has a diff favorite. It would be nice if there were a few standouts... but I keep seeing thesis as a big new one.

I've searched for wordpress themes here and read almost every thread and as confused as ever - lol.

One question is what is the advantage of some of these paid themes like thesis, affiliate theme, and others versus some of the themes here - Free Wordpress Themes & Free Wordpress Themes Downloads (not an affiliate, just got from another thread) - some of these look better than thesis or the others.

Also downloaded flexibility theme - the free one, not the new one.

Thanks in advance...

I think it all comes down to what you want. Thesis is SEO optimized and has some cool features but if it doesn't serve your needs, then it is pretty much worthless.

I think that one of the biggest advantages is that a premium theme will be more unique as most blogging hobbyists won't lay down the dough for it. Also, if you want to go with a magazine format, the premium layouts are the answer.

I recommend thesis, cool features, easy and smooth configuration, only I don't kind of like the style. But you can customize or pay someone to customise it for you.

PS. If you succeed in seeing someone, you could pm me, I need someone who can design mine too.

What are you looking for in a theme?

The free ones in my sig are stripped down and convert very well for niche marketing blogs, however, they're a bit limited and plain for flagship or social blogs.

Thesis and some of the other paid themes are flexible and easy for a novice to configure. This is something to think about if the idea of cutting and pasting ad code or configuring plugins intimidates you.

    Hi,

This article may help on the advantages of premium themes over free themes:

    http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...dpress-themes/

There are also a whole lot of theme sites at the bottom (both free and paid), some of which you may not have seen before.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

One advantage of a paid theme is that it is much less likely to get abandoned by the developer. Changes in WP can break themes and they need to be updated as well.

You might find a free theme that you love and an update will come along and jack it up. You'll either have to fix the code yourself or hire someone to fix it if the developer is no longer making updates. The paid themes I've purchased have come with either free lifetime upgrades or a minimum of six months free upgrades.

Of course, this isn't an issue if you don't update WP, but then you might run into security issues. I've had them. You don't want them.

Having a premium theme is definitely going to help you stand out among other bloggers. I do not have much knowledge about Thesis or affiliate theme but I have a working knowledge with WP-Flex. Since you want to start a network of blogs you may need to change the look of yous site each time. WP-Flex lets you use the theme as many times as you wish and is fully customizable, comes with a user guide and is very user friendly.

Because of the constant word press version updates, working with a Premium theme will almost always win out. Your theme creator will make the adjustments and 9 times out of 10 offer you free upgrades. Plus, you have access to support when something goes wrong or you want to makes custom changes to your theme.

There always be free themes available as well - and it doesn't matter which WP version is the current one. You may try the paid versions - like Thesis, Flexibility, Woo Themes and countless others - they're great....but the main focus should be on content and then getting the traffic to it! :-)

I am using a paid affiliate theme called
    "Wordpress Dream Theme"

I believe paid themes are better because:

    1. Less people use them because they cost $
    2. They are customizable and unique for you
    3. You get the necessary support from the seller
which you don't get in a free theme.
