Help! Need press release experts advice

Hi all,

I'm trying to help a friend get more registrations for a softball clinic. I just started helping her out last week and already have dominated the first pages of Google for nearly a dozen keywords.

BUT, we only have 1 week left to get to 200 registrations and aren't quite there yet. One idea that popped into my head was to do a paid press release (I've done a few free press releases over the last week and they've gotten ok results but not great)

SO - I'm looking for some advice and tips from warriors who have successfully used press releases. How can I get the most exposure without breaking the bank?

The goal is to get a minimum of 100 clinic registrations in the next 7 days. Any ideas you can give will be great (doesn't have to be just about press releases, I'm open to anything that will help get us to the 100 mark)

    itsliz,

Spend some time crafting a headline that encapsulates at least three of the five W's in an informative way:
    - Who
    - What
    - When
    - Where
    - Why/how

Then rethink your release from the point of view of what will make the girls (and their parents, who are presumably paying for it) excited to participate.

    - How is this different from other ways girls can improve their softball skills?
    - What will participants be able to do afterwards that they can't now?

    Good luck,

First of all you need to see to the formal structure of the pr, which includes a clearly formulated heading, a condensed (and catchy!) 1-2 sentence summary, date and place, etc.

Make sure your first paragraph is maximum informative and grabs the attention - although try to sound somewhat detached, and of course not blatantly advertising.

Include someone's direct speech - this techniques has become close to a must I guess.

Also, I would advise you to diversify your present copy, because (IMHO) right now it relies a little too heavily on parallel (both logically and syntactically) constructions, this might dull the attention I think.

If you would like to read some of the pr guidelines, here are How to write a press release, How to Write a Press Release - wikiHow and Press Release -- How to Write a Press Release, Press Releases, Sample Press Release Template.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you! This definitely helps, I am reworking it now.

What press release distribution service will bring the best results?

For the widest possible exposure, I recommend PRWeb but tastes vary and everyone has their preference.

Also, don't be afraid to email your press release to your local news outlets - newspapers, radio, and even television news. These outlets are always on the lookout for local interest stories.

Use some Google-fu to find the contact information for one or two reporters/writers for each place and shoot your release to them as an attachment to a very polite, brief email. Be sure to include your contact information or your friend's contact information.

If you haven't heard back in a 2 or 3 business days, give them a call. Don't underestimate the power of a simple phone call to break down barriers. Of course, you don't want to harass anyone so if you get blown off, chalk it up to their missed opportunity and try the next guy/gal on your list.

This works and I speak from experience.

      Hope this helps.

With PRWeb, is there a particular package you recommend? They have an $80, $140, $200 and $360

It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you really want the long-term SEO effects, go with the appropriate package. Ditto for all the other bells and whistles that the higher-end packages offer. Compare and contrast them and you'll be able to decide which works best for you for this particular situation.

Sorry I can't be of more help in this aspect but only you and your friend really know what your ultimate goal of the press release should be.
