Default iPhone App Development Costs

Hey guys,

Say I want to hire someone to develop me an iPhone app.

Say my niche is cooking. Italian, Mexican and Chinese food, plus wine and drinks guides.

Say I want ONE platform that allows me to change the frontend as I choose: a big logo as you load the program, a smaller version of the logo once the program loads, a variable number of menu options, each pointing to a text with a picture.

On my end, I'd just load new logos, photos and content and the app would be ready to be uploaded and distributed. I'd like it to look stylish and simple, and also to make it work with more than one different thing.

Is that possible? Is that complex/costly?

Thanks in advance,
Diogo

Hi Diogo,

Go on to elance and look at other iphone projects, it will give you an idea of costs and what people are doing.

Contact a developer through there and ask them to give you a quote for the work - they will tell you if it can be done quickly.

All the best

Jason

Hey there Diogo,

According to this article in The Guardian, "Kehl says he has seen 'pretty basic' app ideas built for around $500 (£315) through his website, but more complicated apps, such as games, tend to command development fees of around $5,000.": Apple: What's in store for iPhone app developers? | Technology | The Guardian

The website that the article refers to is here: iPhone Freelancer - Home

Best of luck,
John.

Yes, that is simple. You should be able to have that done for about $200. Try elance, rentacoder and getafreelancer. You're likely to find cheaper prices on rentacoder.

Hmm $200 for a half-decent iPhone app sounds like it has some killer marketing potential...

I think that $200-$500 is quite low for an iphone app. I would be weary of any developer telling you they can do it for that price.

I speak from experience, as I have an iPhone app built for renting movies from Redbox (app is called "Inside Redbox Mobile" if you want to look). The real-world cost for this app is about $25,000.

russell09 is right on for standard costs. $125/hr is about the going rate, sometimes even higher.

Good luck!

Mike

Don't want to burst your bubble or stuff...but just because the iPhone is very popular and stuff, it doesn't meant that you will succeed with your app.

I think that people are misinformed when it comes to iPhone apps...making an iPhone app is like starting out a new business, just because you have an iPhone app doesn't that people are actually going to use/download/buy it.

You have to do market research to see if people will use it...get recommendations for what services/programmers to use, figure out an easy to use UI, gather data to see if your gonna give it for free or make people pay for it and whole other things.

If you think about it like "oh, this is gonna make a great app" but you don't have your "numbers" your just spending money blindly without knowing if it will work or not.

"Nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy..."
