BlueHost IP on Blacklist - hurting email deliverability ...help!

Hi Warriors,

One of my websites is set up at Bluehost. The IP that website is assigned is on a blacklist because of some spammers sharing the IP with me (there are 100+ domains shared on that IP).

iContact won't deliver my messages because it will be sent to spam.

How can I fix this? What do you recommend?

Thanks.

As far as my experience goes... I'd consider moving over to a new domain. Or consider investing in a VPS or VDS. Something else to consider... if the FROM email address is linked up to the website. Assign a new FROM email address and give that a try.

Other than that, have you tried looking on YouTube for blacklisted domains with BlueHost & iContact tutorials? Also check to see whether BlueHost iContact have any FAQ's. Or simply give BlueHost support a call.

I have a whole nice website built out at this domain unfortunately and would like to continue using it. It's a shame someone else on my shared hosting plan ruined my website's reputation. Blacklists should consider this for people on shared hosting accounts (look at the domains and not IP addresses).

Yes, I have my self hosted email cleint set up on Bluehost, but use the SendGrid API to send from, while using a from email address of my own choosing. My reputation with sendgrid remains above 99.25% and I've never had any problem with blacklists or reaching the inboxes.

On thing that really helps is that by using an outside sender like sendgrid, they have DKIM and SPF records setup so that they give the recipient IP the correct info to know for sure that your email is not spam. That in of itself is well worth using them.

Can I ask a foolish question? Wouldn't cloaking your links in your emails
hide your real IP and allow your emails to go through?

No, the links you use in your messages (i.e., the content of your messages) have nothing to do with the IP address of your mail server (i.e., the source of your messages) and the blacklist is based on the source of the messages (i.e., the mail server).

It's akin to setting up your cellphone to automatically block calls from certain numbers. It doesn't really matter what the person on the end might be calling about, you've already decided to block the call based on the number itself and so that person isn't going to get a chance to say anything. Similarly, the blacklist is based on the IP address of the mail server and so as long as emails are being sent from the mail server, it doesn't matter what links (if any) they contain; the messages will be blocked.

This is why transactional email services can be useful; one of the biggest things they do is aggressively police and respond to spam and other complaints against their users so that their mail servers are known for not causing problems. Other mail servers recognize these services as trusted sources and so are more willing to deliver their messages.
