I'm always using tinyurl. That works well.

    bit.ly for me too.

However, I found another that was far more advanced, and produced prettier stats, but I can't remember the name :p

    Sorry if that wasn't helping.
Anyways, bit.ly let's you choose your link. E.g. If it's about dog training, you can make it look like this: bit.ly/dogtraining

I think it might improve ctr a bit, as people will know what the can expect.

I think the best is using your own domain, provided it is kind of short.

To rely on a 3rd party to always forward your links (especially affiliate links) is just crazy. If they go under, or just decide to not forward your links anymore, how bad would that hurt your biz?

Since I use Wordpress a lot, I use Pretty Link Plugin which is extremely easy to use and has a great tracking aspect.

Using your own server is the best... The problem with using other services is that you have no control if they go down, have a glitch, and etc.. So if you are pushing affiliate products or something and the service goes down then you may lose a gret deal of sales.

This is why it is always best to use your own server....

I have used bit.ly and tinyurl for some time as well.. They work, but, it is far more effective to use your own domain to create short url's.
The reason is because not all people trust the well known short url's.
