Twitter is two-way whereas a list (at least the typical "announcement" type list that most marketers use) is a one-way street. So, Twitter is more conducive to building relationships, while a list is more like having "followers."

2.) It doesn't seem to me that pushing your offers viá Twitter is working that good.
Some have luck with it, but it really depends on your audience and product. I've found that Twitter is best for soft selling and relationship marketing.

I agree with Dan. Twitter is for building relationships. Some soft selling works but it is mainly a community.

Twitter hasn't helped me one bit ......at least yet. I'm having an awful time trying to get traffic to my site.

You have a very small number of followers. You don't frequently interact with people with your tweets. You don't tweet often at all.

If you want to maximize your use of Twitter and get more traffic to your site from it, you need to:

          1) Build a following, preferably a targeted one of people that will be interested in your niche

          2) Tweet more often. Once every couple days doesn't cut it. You should tweet at least once per day, but preferably multiple times throughout the day to ensure people see and read your tweets.

          3) Interact with people more. Don't just reply to people that reply to you first. Comment on other people's tweets. Retweet some interesting tweets.

I would also look at doing something different with your website. It doesn't really draw you in. And, how often do you update it? If someone visits once, why would they need to visit again? And then there's a box in the upper right corner? A search box? It's not really clear what it is or why it's there.

Dan, thanks for the feedback. This is my first ever attempt at a website or IM for that matter. I'm afraid that I may have chosen a crappy niche that nobody cares about. For me, that has been my biggest hurdle.....choosing an area to focus on. I just don't think I'm very good at anything to the point that I could develop a following or be a voice for a following of people. Creativity is not my strong point as you can tell.

There seems to be a fair amount of advertiser competition in your niche. You're using WordPress, so it's pretty easy to just pick a different theme that's more attractive and does a better job at getting visitors' attention.

There are plenty of keywords you can build content around, such as coconut oil, virgin coconut oil, coconut oil hair, organic coconut oil, extra virgin coconut oil, organic virgin coconut oil, coconut oil benefits, coconut oil for hair, nutiva coconut oil, coconut oil skin, organic extra virgin coconut oil, coconut oil health and coconut oil weight loss. Those are just some of the more popular searches.

You could make your blog more blog style and less like a static website, and update content more regularly, with articles covering the different keywords. Then, visitors would have a reason to check the site more frequently.

Your Twitter profile says you're a photographer, so maybe you could add more photos to help improve the site's appearance? Give people something to look at?

You could also add recipes, perhaps with photos of the finished meals?

So, you've got a lot to work with in that niche. I know it can be hard to come up with new ideas. Sometimes it feels like there's nothing more you can possibly write about on a topic, but there are always different angles to be explored.

    Hey there,

Personally, I'm not a Twitter Goober myself - i'm just like you except I think I know more about it than you actually do plus I've managed to convince myself that it actually works after seeing, reading, n hearing all the raves about it online .

Well, the thing is, those who are good at it will tell you that success with Twitter requires some applications. You need them to automate all you activities unless you have the time to sit on your PC and post every now n then. Some of these aps are: Followers Adder, Twivaway, TwitterFeed, etc. TwitterFeed allows you to automatically tweet your blog posts each time you make an update.

If you use article services such as EzineArticles.com, your twitter status will be updated each time any of your submitted articles is accepted into their system. The pros usually say it's best to make your profile focused so ur followers know what to expect. I'm sure you know there're several guides showing you all these and how to go about it. Also, don't spam your links!

If you've got any money to burn, you can check out CB for them or here's a recommendation if you not sure what I'm talking about.

The bottom line is, people are strategically making it online with Twitter which means you can quit being sceptical now. It takes a a bit of knowledege to make it work though just like everything else around here...

    Hey again Sven,

I'm glad I was able to get you thinking again. I look at Twitter & to me it seems like one of the easiest methods of getting traffic to a website but just requires the techniques & toold I mentioned. I wish you all the best man...& will keep track with this thread to see what I can learn from it.

    Take care...

Twitter can be initially really difficult to get to grips with and use effectively.

Our clients at SubHub pointed this out, which led me to write a couple of articles on the subject, to help people get up to speed.

Hopefully you may also find them useful

I never understood twitter, at least from a normal user standpoint (not an IMer). I even attempted to use it to see why people were orgasming over it. I think it's useless, especially considering I have facebook that offers the same thing but with many more features. The only reason why it got so popular is because Oprah endorsed it. I think the appeal it has on so many people is that people love to feel special and important. Twitter offers a way for a user to get lots of attention in real time, whereas myspace and facebook give people attention over a period of time.

That's absolutely true Dan. But if you're into driving traffic to your website, you'd want to consider using it no matter how useless you think it is. Unless, you have a very comfortable source of traffic already - a little bit more won't hurt and might help increase your presence. Of course, like I said, it's if you're interested in marketing...

Dan, yes, those are some things I could work on to keep it interesting. I just need to learn how to "think" about this stuff in a different way and not just go by my assumptions. Your input is greatly appreciated!

You can also go to Yahoo! Answers and search for "coconut oil" to see what questions people are asking about it and write articles for your blog (or article marketing) around those questions.

And, to bring this back to the OP's topic, you can also search on Twitter for "coconut oil" and see what other people are saying about it, which can give you ideas as well. Plus, you can reply to those people on Twitter if they are asking questions about it.

Twitter gives me traffic but no sales made yet.

Yesterday I received 597 hops for a Clickbank product but could not make even 1 sale. Product was Copynprofit.

Twitter can help on two levels, or has for me..
As for driving traffic, like most things on the Net, it's a numbers game isn't it? If you only have a few hundred followers you certainly won't have 50% of them visiting your site every time you make an announcement. But if you have 10 000 and have an interesting post, a certain % will come by, another % will retweet it and another % may even give you a link.
On top of that - some of the coolest educational videos about the potential of the web came to me via Twitter. I don't follow rappers. I'm sure they have some great stories to tell - but I have music for that. On twitter I follow professors, seo experts and business leaders and in all honesty - I do learn from these guys. I wasn't a big fan in the early days but am growing to enjoy it more every month.

For me i have been able to build an even better list, get a page ranking of three on four different websites through my business dealings on twitter, sales every day and much more i think of my followers as my second subscribers base and it works a treat. All followers are a potential customer and they have a lot to offer me.

in the internet marketing field for example people are put off by the idea of just joining a mailing list where as through twitter you can build a relationship answer their questions/problems etc and they then join your list and recommend you to others because they trust you.

    kind regards

I have not taken the time to learn much about it, but its on my list. I do tweet a few times a week and I have had traffic to my sites (about 20 a week) and made 1 sale from it, so it must be something there.
