Depends. Run it through copyscape or Google some key phrases in quotes to see if it's listed elsewhere. If it looks OK, then it's OK. If it doesn't, it needs an editor.

Yep, run it through Copyscape Plagiarism Checker - Duplicate Content Detection Software

Then just check it over for spelling errors ect.

If English isn't your first language though and your content is in English then it might be worth getting an editor or friend to look it over before publishing it.

What looks okay to one meticulous grammarian may not look okay to a more meticulous grammarian. I say this respectfully, but if you're not 100 percent confident by the quality of that article, hiring an editor is a good way to go.

By the way, when I say quality, I am not only referring by the quality of English, but also the quality of content in terms of flow and substance.

Didn't you hire a native English writer on oDesk?

One thing I'll say with confidence: if you need to hire an editor, to edit an article you've bought, then under no circumstances buy another article from the same writer again!

This begs the question: Why buy articles from non-native English speakers in the first place?

There's nothing worse than trying to establish yourself as an authority on the web and having content that sounds like its lost in translation.

Yes, it needs to be edited if it's not from a native English speaker. Otherwise, you shouldn't need one if you stick with US writers from now on and just run the articles through Copyscape after.

  Because there are writers whose first language isn't English but can write just as well as an English native, believe it or not. I know that most foreign writers here are bad, but that doesn't mean there aren't any good ones around.

Be very careful where you get these articles. Some of these guys who 'write' articles and then sell them actually copy them from other people's websites.

I have had this happen to me many times (have people copy my content word for word) but didn't get upset because I know what goes around comes around.

Yes there are great article writers who write 100% unique content. Find these guys and give them business.

Definitely.

I also do not intend to offend, but given the language difference, the answer is yes.

And, I agree with Alexa. You should not have to pay again to be able to use an article you bought.
