What Are Some Examples Of Online Business Models & Those That Are Not

Need some clarity with what are online business models and what are not classified as online business models and why they are not !!!! For example, just read a thread here that "list building is not a online business model" if it is not then what is it then ?

It would be helpful if you could mention a few online business models, pros/cons of it, and why is it considered a online business model.

Now, for the sake of clarity for myself and others here who are assuming that certain ways to make money online are considered online business models when in fact they are not, could you also give some examples of what are definitely not considered online business models and why they are not considered to be online business models.

List building is an online activity ... anything you do to make money using the web is an online business.

    It really is that simple

    Affiliate / Network Marketing
    Coaching
    eCommerce
    Solo Ads (selling)
SEO / Content writing (can be in both categories).

These are some examples of online business models.

Just like Bernard said. It's pretty simple to separate activities / tasks & business models.

Well, I disagree with list building not being an online business model. You normally would have a squeeze page or some other way to capture the email addresses. This is normally not done offline.

The only "offline" business models are those stores and products that are sold through brick and mortar stores or via print catalogs sent through the mail or other direct marketing offers.

Ever seen a fish bowl full of business cards? Ever seen an ad in a magazine
urging you to call to get a free whatever?

These are offline list building strategies.

Those are locations and strategies... not business models.

The fact is there are very few business models that differ between online
and offline. The only difference is the tools used to implement the model.

Yes. Certainly List building is an online activity.
what I can say about the business model are membership sites with Subscription, review sites to post review about your product or service, ecommerce sites, brokerage and blogging which are the most used business models.

    Why?

Why do you "need some clarity" on that?

You go through spells of starting off huge numbers of threads (of which, on occasions, huge numbers have been deleted), and on one occasion you've admitted openly that you were collating the responses into a product. That isn't a fair, ethical or reasonable use of this forum.

    Yes. I said that.

A method of retaining and building relationships with traffic. (I said that in the same post in which I pointed out that it isn't, in itself, a "business model".)

    Why?

So you can collate the replies into another product you can try to sell?

    Do your own research.

Don't expect Warriors to do it for you.

Here is an example that everyone can understand...

Let's use on offline business model as an example.

Let's use Real Estate. A realtor will build relationships with clients in the form of good service and reputation and go as far as drive them around to see properties.

Now the business model here is Real Estate but the relationship building and driving people around is just an 'activity' that realtors do in order to (help them) make sales.

The activity itself helps make sales but it's not the business model.

The business model is the 'selling' of properties in order to make profit.

Now in the Online world, an autoresponder (email software) is a tool that helps you 'cultivate' a relationship with a lead (a person who may be interested in what you have to offer).

The business model is not the online actions. It is model that you are selling in order to make money like an Ebook, a system, an affiliate product at clickbank ETC.

    Make sense?

In response to your post alexa:

I was not referring to a post you made on list building since I did not come across a post you made on list building, but I did read someone else's below today, which created some confusion and now it is clear. The thread below prompted me to ask this question to make sure I understand.

If I am not sure of something that is being said, then I need to ask to make sure I am not taking someone's advice that it is or it is not factual.

THREAD----What Online Business Model is Best?

List Building is not a Business Model.

It is a way for you to communicate and share the love with your list.

Now about your post, there really isn't a 'best' business model for everyone. Everyone has different goals, interests, mindset and money blue prints.

What might be Edlund may not be good for kilgore.

This question keeps resurfacing on WF very often.

      But in truth...

Not everything you'll do will become a success.

Somethings are there for you to learn and if you learn your lessons in life, you will graduate to the next level.

Many of you come here because you have asked for something better.

Maybe you have asked for a better lifestyle.

No thing is being held from you but you will have to learn 'lessons.

These lessons are not restricted to just marketing and IM in general.

These lessons are also part of your 'daily' life.

      What do I mean?

Well, gratitude has a lot to do with it. If you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back and a refrigerator with food in it (no matter how much food) then you are a success compared to billions of people in this world who don't have those things.

And if you can't be grateful to God for what you already have, then how do you expect to have more?

If you have a job right now, then be grateful and do the best job that you can for your employer. Many people claim to hate their jobs and want to become their own bosses.

They do just enough work to NOT get fired and expect to come here and strike it rich.

      No.

      It doesn't work that way.

Do a great job for your employer because your performance and your level of gratitude makes the world of difference here in your IM career.

      Don't believe me?

      Well one day you will.

List building would be an 'Online Business Model' only if you were a lead vendor who sells leads or solo ads to marketers.

The lead vendor / solo ad vendor is making money selling leads. That would be a business model of you were one of these guys.

But as marketers, we don't sell our leads. We send them emails to build a relationship and make sales if they buy from us via our products or services.

What we are selling for dollars is the business model.
