Don't Give Up On Your Old Articles

I will make this short and to the point.

I have a Google Alert on my name and today I saw an article posted of mine,
supposedly, that I didn't recognize.

I finally did a search for it to see where the person got it from and son of
a gun, it was written and submitted on April 15, 2007.

Folks, that's over 2 years ago.

I don't even remember writing it but there it was under my EZA account
and this person just picked it up today and published it on their site.

I won't give the link because I don't want there to be any hint of self
promotion here (also why I removed my signature)

But there is a very important point that I am stressing here that needs
to be heard by skeptical article marketers.

A lot of people think that when you write an article and submit it to a
place like EZA, after the initial rush of traffic, that article is dead.

It gets no more traffic and nobody bothers to republish it to their site,
thus turning the article into dead wood.

This is proof that this just isn't so.

Now just imagine over the course of several years and writing hundreds
of articles what this could mean, especially in niches that aren't all that
competitive.

Point is, articles are not a one shot deal. Sure, some lapse into the void
of the Internet, but many do not.

Yes, the better the article, the better your chance of having it be
republished on other sites. And if your resource box has a strong call
to action, that's more potential prospects.

I'm keeping an eye on the URL in my stats to see how many people come
to my site from that article.

And it's just ONE article.

Now, here's something else.

That person republished your article?

Go check out his site and see what kind of traffic it's getting. If it appears
to be a high ranked site, contact the owner and ask him if he'd like you
to be a guest author for his site.

Why not?

If he liked your ONE article, isn't there a chance he'd like more, especially
if it's original content not seen anywhere else?

Okay, got it? Don't give up on old articles.

They can be worth a lot more than you think.

That is inspiring, especially since I write about 12 per week. I have been contacted by the owner of a site to write for them. So yes you are right!!!!

This has happened to me too Steven. I'm also always looking for good articles to add to my content sites, and when I find an article I like I usually click through to the author's profile page to check out more of their articles and see if might be able to use any of those - yep, even older ones!

I just wish I would have known about article marketing about 12 or so years ago.

I still occasionally come across old forum posts and eMail list postings that I wrote 10 and 12 or more years ago. They're still floating out there on the Internet.

If only they had links to my website...

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Hi Steven, Hey recently I read where somebody was talking about writing articles that backlink to other articles they wrote to increase their articles ranking on the SERPs, does this make sense...does anybody else do this, does it work...

    Hi,

I agree with Steven................. Article Marketing lasts and lasts, and also it works. A few people who sell full time online recently told me article marketing is a waste of time and you never get traffic, so I pulled up my stats and there just after google were articles as number 2 refer to my one site.

Also recently I have had two people ask if they could use some of my articles in a book, and they said they would keep the bio box in the book as well.

So it works and your articles live on

    That is great Steven.

As far as I'm concerned article marketing is one of the best tactics for free and long term traffic.

If you aim for targeted valuable articles with your byline in the resources section you'll have a decent traffic generator for possibly many years to come.
