What do you think of this blog idea?

Hey there,

I'm currently brainstorming through some ideas for a new blog and came up with a concept I would like to check with you guys...

A versus blog, where I would review different products or services and pit them against other similar ones in a versus match-up.

Dunno if it's a good idea or not, perhaps it's complete crap, just wanted to see what you think!

Cheers!

Sounds like a good idea to me. If they're products people are interested in and you give good reviews for each item without seeming like you're just trying to make a buck, it should work.

Okay, yeah if I want to make money off this idea it would probably be through adsense or private ads. This idea would also likely benefit the most from search engine traffic I guess, I'm still brainstorming through the concept, but thank you for your opinion!

If you are choosing just one niche to compare products against one-another you may struggle to find enough products in some niches, so be careful which niche you go into. You may be better looking into covering multiple related niches and target the appropriate audience for each article/report you produce.

For example, rather than choosing Internet Marketing which is a large niche, but has limited products because of the time lag between new products being developed and brought to the market, go for Marketing that covers a much wider area and brings in a whole new range of products and services to review.

It would even allow you to cross compare services like Facebook Marketing versus Direct Mail etc, ensuring you don't have extended periods of downtime while you wait for new products or services to launch.

  • Karlstech,

Yes, I believe your blog concept has potential. Do you plan to just focus on one niche, i.e. Mobile devices and apps for blind and visually impaired users, or on a few industries and niche down on some very specific categories under each industry, i.e. Technology = Mobile / tablets / laptops / apps for persons with disabilities like blind and visually impaired users, wireless routers that combine the bandwidth of two or more Internet connection accounts (for people with two or more ISPs), educational video games for children with dyslexia and so on? You may want to do this, since you could be competing with other popular authority sites that do the same thing (for both options), though most don't usually niche down; and

You could integrate affiliate links into the reviews on your blog, i.e. Amazon affiliate links (and other affiliate networks) for the products that you're comparing. Also:

Think of an opt-in offer that would be attention-grabbing, enticing, compelling and beneficial to your target viewers...

If you mean that wanna create review site of some good's then it's fine idea but first one you must to do keyword research if this is will bring good traffic or not. Then you must create a lot of fresh and unique traffic. Do better on page seo too. Like interlinking, meta tag optimise and alt optimisation for pic's (if you have it).

Sure, this is definitely an idea that could work in just about any niche. But it might be a good idea to also add some other useful content in there (i.e. informational posts) to break things up a bit and make sure you don't run out of products or services to compare too quickly.

I think it's a good idea... many times for devices I look at comparisons, for example if one table is better than another one and in what ways....

Haha, well I'm not worried really, the concept is very relative to the topic of the blog so if I decide to go through with the idea it won't really matter if someone else has launched one or if there already exists a similar website or blog

It's a great idea. There are some websites doing this already. Example sites are epinions.com and buzzilions.com.

I don't know if there are any blogs though. You could find similar products that are hot and create a battle between them. You could also add a personal touch with a blog which is not there in comparison websites. They just use tables to compare.

I like the "battle" thing though . It could be nice to base your blog on that theme. Or maybe you already have planned that.

It can be a good way to earn through affiliate links from such a blog.

Good Luck. Hope you find success

The idea sounds really good to me, with some research into popular products this should stack up. I think people are relating more to the layout of a blog more now, rather than a traditional website sales-page - could it be the interaction element?
My immediate thought was when you might be looking to help you with an injury of some sort (sprained ankle, gout, bad back?) how helpful would it be to have some comparative reviews which might help eliminate poor products, just when you really need some help.
Like others have said though - you never know until you try.

Yes. I think it probably is the conversational factor and the writer sharing opinions and voicings factor

This is a great idea I have a blog in the automotive niche, so I often come across articles and videos in which people do the "Car A vs Car B". Those articles get tons of views. Actually, review-type blogs do well but I would break it up with other content - not just reviews all the time. You could talk about how a particular product is manufactured or share news about your niche.

    Good luck!

That's a great idea, it will work because people often look up for comparison and versus between two products.

Good idea. You will know work or not, when you try it. The one important about review site, you should to describe accurate pro and con of product. You need show knowledge about product for audiance believe you are professional in this. If you can do that. I believe you will get huge traffic surely.

It does work. I used to own a website where I would post articles each week both reviewing smartphones as well as comparing smartphones.

The comparison content always got a lot more views compared to the straight up review content.

your idea is good and it exists in various forms.

One of the most popular methods is to have the items stacked and compared if not always as a true " VS" design. These are often turned into a Top 3, Top 5, or Top 10 list that includes affiliate links in hopes that once the website visitor has been helped out by the comparison, they will click a link and make a purchase. Some are set up like a review site where the top choice gets extra love because the site owner wants the affiliate sale for the item that is getting the most flattering remarks. Gotta be careful to not sound insincere by giving such a glowing review it sets off the visitors BS detector.

It sounds like a good idea. It would be like a review site. Others are having success already with this idea. It's more of a review site that compares different products and services. You can add BOTH the Pros and Cons of each product.

People love that kind of stuff and it's easier to read & compile enough data in someone's head to help them make an 'educated' decision in which product to buy.

Just make sure that you are honest with your Pros and Cons.
