I think you're talking about affiliate marketing.

    1. Create your website.
    2. Apply to an affiliate network.
    3. Choose offers.
    4. Get links.
    5. Send traffic.

If you mean Amazon, then it will depend on where you live.

Try searching the clickbank marketplace for digital products you can promote.

... then you may not earn anything worth talking about.

        Key concept
: what determines your income from affiliate marketing is primarily the strength of the recommendations you make to potential customers, and that depends on how much they trust you, and that depends on how reliable and trustworthy a relationship you've built with them. It's mostly about relationships, not websites.

The two best-known affiliate deals, in these parts, are ClickBank and Amazon, so here are just one post (with a couple of links inside) about each. I don't know if this is exactly what you want to do, when you say "retailer", but reading these two posts really slowly and carefully and understanding the fundamental points that they explain should help to get you oriented, anyway. At the moment, you have a big learning-curve ahead of you (as we all did, when we started).

I wouldn't start out with Amazon. Seriously. Money can be made with them - a lot - but you really need to be more experienced and have time before you'll turn any decent level of income. The payout rates are not ideal, not when compared to standard industry rates. Amazon Associates is really a different ballgame altogether when we compare it to regular affiliate networks. With AA, you're effectively capitalizing on the brand name, and that makes it easier to get sales. When you know what you're doing and have a little investment capital, you can turn a very nice income, but it's really the last place I'd ever send a newbie. Of course, AA want newbies. Why? 1 or 2 newbies send really no traffic. But 100,000 and more send a lot and the traffic tends to be honest - full of drop-ons.
