Who Are The "Big Dogs" In IM?

Hi,

Just thought i'd put this out there.

In pretty much everything I have tried to learn there has always been someone to look up to and follow.

If you're interested in sport you just go and watch your favourite star doing his or her thing. You know they are the real deal, you can be inspired and learn from them.

Same with a lot of other interests.

But with IM we know its a MASSIVE industry but there seems to be a ton of people all either talking in vague "i know someone that makes this or that" or "I make 10,976,89 a month... here buy my WSO (ahem get sucked into my sales funnel) for $7".

Are there any good interviews out there with legitimate, successful internet marketers that aren't just trying to sell you something?

The only one I have found is the Mike Geary interview on Tim Ferris' site. I liked this one, not only because it was inspirational and as a total newbie learned a few things but wasn't in the "make money online" niche. So didn't feel like he was just pitching his latest Ebook or mentoring course.

I think Pat Flyn at Smart Passive Income comes across as pretty a pretty legit guy too.

Does anyone else have any links to articles/videos etc with inspirational internet marketers? It doesn't have to be a tips based interview, just like a documentary or something

Thanks

    The Big Dogs?

You're not looking for a guru are you?

A guru doesn't have the time to spend on teaching you unless you make it worth their while. Let's say a few thousand bucks just to get a little time with them.

You must already be following someone or are already on someone's list right now.

Stop judging them and get started with one of them.

Looking for a 'guru' to get started with is the reason why 97% of the people fail. The new people (that are a little further down the road than you) are the best marketers to follow.

They will 'invest' the time with you.

Now if you want some kind of Guru Video, here is one (if you haven't seen it yet). This is Frank Kern & John Reese (2 guys who became very successful with Network Marketing Online:

I don't have a huge problem with Tony Robbins. His motivational speaking doesn't do anything for me, but I respect that different people respond to different things.

He peaked in the 1980s though. His revival a few years ago was very brief and his TV show was cancelled quickly. I think that's why he lowered himself to getting involved with the MMO gooroos. He probably knew it wouldn't last and wanted to make the most of it. But they needed him more than he needed them. They were being raked over the coals by Salty at the time and they needed Tony's air of legitimacy to prop them back up.

    Hi Rory,

I'd love to have a Guru as you put it and am in talks with someone I think cold help me out (time will tell I will report back, if he does the job i'll sing his praises from the roof top).

But no, like I explained in my post im looking for someone for a bit of inspiration, just as a keen amateur golfer will watch videos/interviews with Tiger Woods you wouldn't expect him to be your guru for a few thousand, thats not what I asked.

    PS thanks for the video

      I hear you Tommy.

Here is a blog from someone who isn't a Guru (Yet) but she offers immense value to the market place right now. I recommend you go on over to her blog. She is an 'inspiration' to many new upcoming entrepreneurs.

She even has a step by step process to help new marketers get started in IM.

Her name is Kelly Brown (Kelly Bee for short).

      Here is her blog: Kelly-Bee.com

I am not getting anything in return for sending you over there. I just can clearly see the value that she is giving.

      Maybe you will too!

Most of the best internet marketers are not in the "how to be an internet marketer" niche.

its not massive as you describe.... its actually pretty dang small, which is why most of the best of the best internet marketers dont ever even try to be in that niche.

also, in the IM market, trying to pattern your business after what most "gurus" tell you is dang near the worst thing you can do.

I think the issue people have when trying to make money online is they are getting in this like its a job and not your own business...

So you are expecting someone to give you specific instructions and specific button combinations you have to press to make it rich. (technical)

When you do talk to millionaires which I have talked to many making 6 and 7 figures they will tell you from a mindset standpoint something that is real.

But with your technical show me how attitude the words they say fly over your head and you still don't listen and still don't take action...

If you want to see this in process watch the show Shark Tank... Listen to what they tell people it's never technical but always the right answer.

I think its because so many of them are gurus at marketing themselves and you are your own person. I dunno when the new people criticize Internet marketing a lot of the times we tell them Internet marketing is just marketing on the internet but theres a whole main line segment that never get mentioned as gurus and some of our guru bigs are not even well known in their field.

For example I do SEO in this circle and outside of it. SEO outside of WF and MMO Internet marketing is much bigger than inside and almost no one knows Alex Becker in the Rand Fishkin world (white hat black hat thing involved as well to be fair) . I like Becker more than most regular SEOs in the SEO section but I'll take Brian Dean as a SEO any day over him to learn SEO from

So a lot of the time I think it comes down to not whose the greatest to learn from but whose the best at marketing themselves (which is not without merit)

I learned a lot from Anik Singal's Inbox Blueprint system and think it's worth the money. Some of the content might be outdated now, but there are still many golden nuggets of information in there. You have to be careful though because a lot of the products out there are scams. As others have mentioned, a successful IM guru is not going to have time to mentor you personally. Your best bet would be to learn from youtube videos and paid/free IM products. IM is not easy, and is definitely not a "get rich quick" scheme. To be successful you must grind daily like everything else. Good luck!

Mr. Kennedy is one cool dude. When i got into copywriting I kept hearing him mentioned along the likes of John Carlton and some of the other greats. I like the fact that he's not only wise as hell but an amazing story teller to get his points across.

It also feels like he's touched all aspects of marketing (not just IM), so he's an incredibly well rounded guy who has "been there and done that"

Start with this forum, join the war room. There are hundreds of hours of great marketers of free information everywhere. Most great marketers became great buy helping others and still do.Sure they cant give everybody one on one, however they leave out great information and actionable steps. Not sure what your after? And I have bought over 50, 7 dollar products this last year and a half, to me everyone of them except maybe one was worth it. Learning from people going through it is the best way. You can PM if you would like I am a successful leader in two other industries and have now waded into IM. It is tuff... like anything, you have to be realistic in your approach, and make a plan to succeed. If that is what you are after?

guys like dan kennedy are the real deal. the stuff he teaches works well outside the "how to be an IMer" niche. He has countless examples of real world businesses he has done amazing things for.

but many other "IM gurus" simply dont have the skills needed to compete in truly hyper competitive markets. some think the IM niche is competitive. its not at all. you need very little skill to have some success in the IM game.

just look at how many wso are launched that make a small but real profit. i know they are not hyper successful, but there are profitable wso's being launched in the IM niche everyday by people with little to no marketing skill or understanding. You cant do that in many... i dare say most markets.

      .
"I not sure about that". Even if it's somewhat true, it's getting less and less true by the day. I agree it's has a lower barrier to entry. But saying you need very little skill to succeed may be pushing it a little, don't you think?

Do you happen to know the failure rate? It's pretty high. Try to get a bank loan to start an internet marketing business. You'd have a better chance with a pizza parlor or a catering truck.

The best guys to follow are those who are succeeding wildy in other markets and then come back and teach what is working for them in their non "here's how I made money selling how to make money products to people who want to make money online" businesses.

I would guestimate that it's about 10 - 20% of the guys many people look up to as "gurus" and I'm being generous.

However, if all you do is play in this space, but you provide tremendous value in ways of education or services, there isn't anything wrong with that.
