How to add file address to PayPal URL forwarding?

Hi, I have a paypal button on my sales page and want to send customers that have completed the purchase to a "thank you page" giving the customer instructions on what to do now they have now they paid for the service.

This is handled by this process on the PayPal instructions.:
Take customers to this URL when they finish checkoutExample: https://www.mystore.com/success

I entered this address in the space where you enter a url: file:///C:/Users/Ed/Downloads/Congrats%20on%20media%20pich%20done%20for%20you%20 (1)%20(1).pdf

As you can see I entered a file from my bluehost account as the address for the redirect and it does not have http in the address.

So I get this error message from paypal:

ERROR INVALID INPUT:
  • successful redirect url:Sorry, the link you gave us isn't working. Please double-check it to make sure it's correct. The link must begin with 'http' or 'https'.
My question is that since I have the information I want the customer to receive after completing the purchase on my server, (1)how can I get paypal to use that info instead of a url, or (2)how can I set the information up on a url so I can get Paypal to use it?

If it has to be a url, perhaps I could set up as a page on my wordpress blog and give the url to that page, but I would like to hide that page from the public. Any thoughts on if this would work and how to hide it from the public?

Thanks for your help on this.

As already pointed out by Paypal, that is not a URL, but a file link. It points to a PDF file on a local hard drive - not to a file available over the internet.

An appropriate URL to that same file (for access via the web) would look something like this:

    http://<mydomain.com>/Downloads/Congrats%20on%20media%20pich%20done%20for%20you%20 (1)%20(1).pdf

Current browsers will either display such a file... or download it (depending on the customers browser settings).

    VOILA!

Put that same information into a blog page. I believe there are themes or plugins available that would allow you to hide (noindex) that page from the major search engines, so that you can hide the page from the public and control access to your customers, only.
