Why is wordpress so slow?

INTERNET MARKETING

Man, it takes so long to save posts, edit posts, resave them. Unreal, why havent they made it faster? I have only got adsl 1 here but still, its ridiculous. Its nearly an obstacle that I would consider not using it for it slows down my work pattern too much.

  Cms sites are a little slower than static sites, since there are usually a lot of things (like plugins) you installed that you don't really need.

It's likely that something else is going on.

It could be a server related slowdown or your own computer but it probably isn't WordPress that's to blame.

I own/operate many WordPress run sites and do not have this issue. The only time I have seen WordPress causing slowdowns is when a blog owner has a large amount of plugins running.

While plugins are certainly cool, I would never recommend installing/activating more plugins than are actually necessary.

  Well I have the all in one seo plugin and sitemaps plugin activated thats about it, shouldnt make it slow should it?

Yeh you guys are likely on lightning fast connections though, we are in the dinosaur age here. This has always been the case for me and word press over many different domains and over the years, always is lag between clicking a post and editing and saving. Maybe i will email the admin and see if the server is ok, its a dedicated server with not much traffic so I dont think it would be the server. thanks for replies...

Man, I dont even know what that means? Ive never changed any ping stuff in wordpress, but yes, that sounds right, every time I edit some posts it pings does it?

Those plugins aren't going to slow you down at all.

If you know your internet speed is really slow, then it's likely the "lag" has nothing to do with WordPress. Sounds like it's time for an upgrade on your end.

I have Verizon FIOS (fiber optic) and am generally thrilled with its speed.

  I dont have an option re speed, but adsl should be fast enough for no lags with wordpress, I will have to investigate further.

  I haven't experienced this problem so I can't really say what it is but I can tell you that it's probably not Wordpress. I have 10+ Wordpress sites of my own and am constantly putting up new WP installs for clients. As Jeff and Kevin have noted, lots of unneeded plugins and a long ping list will drag down WP but neither of those seem to be related to your problem.
  
  I would have initially recommended activating the SuperCache plugin but that really only helps for post loading times on the frontend user side. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Justin,

If you have dsl you should be fine as far as speed goes.

If you haven't edited the default ping list, then this isn't the problem either. However, if you do want to check out a ping optimization plugin, this is the one I recommend:
MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer

(this plugin is considered "Review ware" and doesn't cost anything)

Have you enabled the Google Gears function on your Wordpress installation? If not, click the "Turbo" link in the upper right-hand corner in your admin area, download Google Gears, and let 'er rip. It can help speed things up for you tremendously.

  Are you using windows 98 by any chance? Wordpress is slow on my win98 machine and fast on my XP.

Since the recent upgrades Wordpress is much
faster than it was. But you are right, it is still pretty
slow when it comes down to posting, editing and deleting.

Wordpress per se is not slow. It's a very clean loading site, if anything it should be your connection.
