Blog is growing, wanting to move on from AdSense

So my blog has been steadily growing. A few days ago, on January 13, the blog had 60,680 sessions, 57,807 users and 80,148 page views in one day. At one point I had 1,100 + Real Time visitors and I had to scale my server up.

This may not seem like alot to most of you, but that is a busy day for me.

AdSense has been treating me well, but lately my RPM has been low and I just know I could have made several times the money I did with other monetizing options on my site.

Now, my blog is a niche in the automotive world. It is simply a Wordpress blog and all I do is write articles about cars. I have no product to sell, no affiliate links or anything, just simply (3) AdSense ads on each page - thats it. To be honest, I dont even know about any other form of monetizing.

Also right now I have no e-mail signup, I just have a simple Facebook like page that pops up and I have been getting Facebook likes. Right now, my Facebook page only has about 600 likes total, but most of those have come recently.

My next immediate goal: I would like to average $500/day profit. Long term goal is $3,500/day. I have met my mini-goals up until this point, but now I am at a crossroads.

Im pretty excited because this blog has only been up for 4 months total. Im just a Web Designer with a passion for (fast) cars and decided to jump in and learn on the fly.

Any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. I have mouths to feed (wife and kid) so I dont want to rely solely on AdSense if there are better options available.

You're right to move on from AdSense.

Investigate other automotive sites. Discover how they monetize and implement the best opportunities. I'm not an expert in the market, but that's how I often begin researching new markets.

Definitely get a subscriber campaign going so that you build an email list. That should be your first priority.

You are getting a good amount of traffic so hopefully your list will build quickly.

In lieu of mailing to your subscribers, I would consider posting a survey on your site with the idea that you want to find out what you might sell your audience. Don't be blunt and ask them what they want to purchase from you . . . but rather ask about their desire for additional "helps" from your site. Find out their needs/wants/desires and if you find some recurring themes you might just have a product in the making or at least a potential affiliate product that you could recommend.

Good luck and congratulations on your success so far. You really have a great start and you are smart to move away from AdSense. With that monetization model, you have to have people clicking away from your site to make money. That seems counter-productive, don't you think?

        I agree.

How do you suggest I go about getting Facebook Likes and an E-Mail Subscriber List?

Right now I have a pop-up box when you visit the site and asks to Like the Facebook page. I really dont want to run (2) seperate popup boxes for email and facebook.

Should I drop the like box altogether? I would like to grow both facebook and subscriber list together.

I'd drop the Like box and build that list

Email is intimate and most folks are email addicts, checking it many, many times daily.

Facebook? Folks don't check it as much as email. Or at least, folks don't stay glued to their Facebook feeds for your latest blog posts like they do email.

A Pop up box works OK but I prefer the more subtle side form and Hello Bar style form at the top of the page.

Either way though start collecting email addresses to mind that gold my man

          BlackReef,

You haven't shared your site so I don't know what the layout looks like. But if you have a right or left column menu, I would put a subscriber box (like you see from aWeber) at the top of the menu on every page of your site. It won't look intrusive. Offer prospects a high quality "gift" or call it a bribe if you like, in exchange for their email address.

I would put a social sharing Facebook "like" widget at the end of every blog post you make. It doesn't have to be a box - it can simply be a very non-intrusive "like us on Facebook" with their icon attached.

So I'm saying do both - subscriber and Facebook likes throughout your site. Remember that the subscriber, IMO, is way more important for you to get than a Facebook like.

          Good luck,

          Steve

Set up your optin to collect email addresses, and write an email series that will be sent out on autopilot after they sign up. In the first couple of them, write about your awesome Facebook page and how good the information is there as well and invite them to like your page.

Afterwards, when you are writing broadcast emails, include an invitation to like your page once a week. it takes a little longer but is a solid strategy.

      What is automated blogging?

Also, do you recommend I setup more blogs in the same niche, or find other niches?

Agreed with Steve on building your list!

If you like writing why not publishing eBooks? Write, write and write some more. Flesh out your ideas. Save to a Word Doc, convert to PDF and then publish on sites like Selz. You can save the Word Doc to a Web File - instructions on Amazon - and upload Kindle ready books and even cooler, upload your PDF to Create Space and publish paperbacks. Just received 2 more proof copies of my paperbacks as I'm writing these words.

eBooks and books are fine ways to both monetize and to build your authority.

Congrats on those stats and all the best!

Two methods to explore, develop a tips booklet or video around a hot topic that will appear to car buyers in exchange for their email - this gets you the list building aspect which you can monetize through sending offers related to car buyers (affiliate for websites that allow used car "blue book" research for example)

In addition, you can roll out to websites that sell anything related to cars to advertise on your site. One ad could bring you $500/month alone - visit top sties around car parts, or other services related to car buyers, contact them with an offer to advertise on your site - you may only get 1 in 5 to take you up, but soon you will have a few ads running and money rolling in (far more than AdSense)

BlackReef, you love fast cars. The type of cars that you have on your site attract people just like you. You already know what you & them have in common. Fast cars right....

Now let's go even deeper in this issue.

What kind of cars do you have on your site?

Now you already know what personality type visits your blog or site right?

    Guys just like you!

Sure build a list & so on but think about this...

Since you are attracting people just like you, what kind of things relating to fast cars and the types of fast cars that you have on your site, would you personally buy online?

This one idea will need to expand in your mind. But this is most likely where your [money getting] ideas will surely sprout from.

    57k uniques in a 24 hour period on a 4 month old blog ..

Good going, to put it mildly.

    List build for sure, seriously..

Even if you don't have your own product, build a lander, create a lead magnet, follow up with affiliate products in the AR.

You have a potential gold mine at your hands, that's before you even talk to potential advertisers.

A well though of blog, getting 50k uniques a day in a high ticket niche, is valuable, very valuable .

    Car insurance
    car sales
    Repairs

    etc.

Hey, drop the FB like box. A like means nothing, trust me (especially today when FB posts have a reach of 5-10% or lesser). Build that email list, way more better in the long term.

Well it looks like things are settled back down to normal. Yesterday I only had about 11,571 unique visitors 17,529 page views.

It's 4:50 PM here local time and so far today I have only had 3,762 UV, 5,738 page views. Only about 30 Real Time visitors right now. FUUUUUU

I need to refocus and stay motivated

You must start your email marketing. Build you list and with so good your traffic is I am pretty sure you are going to grow this list to a really big one. But don't just add the numbers, you have to build a profitable list that is more important. Build a relationship with your subscribers and you can then introduce whatever affiliate products next when the time is right. This business looks really promising for you. Good Luck!

I would try for even some private lable rights ebooks on automotive topics "modding your car" fixing your engine" etc... just resell those babies with your name as the author. You can also try to get your on advertising system going and charge advertisers for banner space etc...
