how much should i charge for keyword research?

Hey Warriors,

I need your advice on this...

I know a web developer who's looking to outsource keyword research to me... She asked me for a quote on how much it would cost (basic keyword research & keyword research with competitive analysis). She's looking for a report in excel with appx 100 keywords. Competitive analysis would include how keywords rank in Searches, SERP, AllInTitle, etc.

Now, I've done plenty of keyword research for myself and my clients, so I'm clear on what's involved there... however, I have no idea what I should charge for the work...

Do you guys have experience with this sorts of thing and know what a standard price would be?

Thanks for the help!

Rebecca

  • Personally, for something like keyword research that isn't as much tied to the sheer quantity as something like content writing is, I'd charge for my time.

Figure out what your time doing the research is worth and charge accordingly.

Like everyone here knows, just about anyone can write 2,000 words asking for money but people are always on the look out for a very good copywriter and will pay thousands for their services.

As you stated, you are knowledgeable, experienced and skilled in keyword research and should be compensated accordingly.

Never underestimate the value of your skill and experience. The results that your client(s) see will ensure that your service(s) are worth every penny.

To answer that question, is to find out how much you earn in an hour first, then multiple by 5 times.

For example if you are earning USD $50 an hour, then you should ask for USD $250 for an hour of work.

That will be what I will ask for.

How much time will it take to get the job done? How much is that time worth to you? How much do you think that person is going to benefit from your work? What is the value for her? Find the intersection between these two(easier said than done), there's your answer.

As others have said do not underestimate the value of keyword research because without it, there will be no hope of anyone finding a website. However one thing to bear in mind that the developer's budget may be different for each site.

Where you are geographically will make a difference as to how much local competition there is in your area.
