How to monetize 1000 uniques/day meme site

Hello there.

I have problems with monetizing a meme based website like 9gag oriented about Game of Thrones.

Traffic now: 100 uniques/day
Traffic when HBOs Game of Thrones series start: 1000 uniques/day

Up till now I've used Adsense, earning me 3-30$/month, with incredibly low 0.2% CTR.
Last week I've used Affiliate marketing adverts on there, I've picked more than a 100 clicks, but so far no sales.
I also have a problem with signing with HBO Store (which is top target for GoT) for affiliate, they don't seem to approve my request via CJ affiliate platform.

Does anybody have an advice on how to additionally monetize it or how to improve current monetization methods? The site is 9gag just about Game of Thrones

Idea 1: Check out Clickbank and look for some high converting fantasy gamers type guides.

Idea 2: Signup for some cpa neworks like Maxbounty, and Peerfly and look for some related offers.

    Test, Test, Test

P.S. Try capturing the leads from your site by building a mailing list then you can have customers for the long haul and then you can monetize your leads through your followup sequence

That's good advice from EntrepreneurJay -- Perhaps your opt-in offer can be a compilation of the best hand-picked memes from your collection, which'd only be available in your opt-in offer and not anywhere else in your site. You can place an attention-grabbing, enticing and compelling copy for your opt-in offer in your landing page...

Another good recommendation from EntrepreneurJay -- You could test those things in your follow-up emails, after you send out a few non-promotional follow-up emails like your thoughts about relevant trending news stories, feature articles, viral videos or social posts, etc., and an additional compilation of memes hand-picked from your collection that aren't available anywhere else in your site nor in your opt-in offer...

From a developer point of view:

The banners on top of page break the menu, make sure placement of codes are not making your site to look ugly!

Also, why would you make your pool of audience very small!
Are there other shows you could try out? Again no expert of shows but I say lord of the rings has some relevance to your audience?

also seems most of your traffic comes from search which is good!

Sine your Alexa rank is 12M, I have a feeling that is the reason CJ is not accepting you!

BTW, would you care to share: Was the 3-30/month and 100 visitor/month was a most recent or was sustained for X month?

  • I would use Amazon and link to products which your surfers might enjoy, DVDs of similar shows I'd guess.

I think CPA offers would be a good match. You get paid for free sign-ups and if you advertise the right way then you could get numerous daily sign-ups easily.

And oh yeah don't forget to build your list too and promote some clickbank products.

    Oh please don't use AdSense.

    Promote gaming offers (free joins).

I would say Adsense considering how little users 1,000 is. Not many conversation through click bank I imagine.

  • There is a game of thrones game you should advertise. Find products related to the drama series.

You can place cpa offers on your site, you can begin to build a list of subscribers and send out other offers in that niche through email marketing. You can also sign up with banner sites such as buynsellads and begin selling banner spots on your site at cpm or monthly rate.

A viral site like 9gag promoting affiliate offers and emailing me with CPA offers?

It's the wrong audience for that.

There's a reason that the biggest viral entertainment sites stick to ad revenue. The other things are very difficult to promote to an audience who is there just to look at funny pictures.
