What ways do you bring traffic to your site?

Hi everyone! Like everyone else here, I am looking for every advantage to bring traffic to my sites. I am sure everyone has their favorite ways to pull traffic to their sites.

What is yours and why? Are there any drawbacks? You can limit it to the top three to keep the length reasonable.

Here are 3 of mine:

1. Forums - Forums are generally targeted to specific audiences which allows you to better target your traffic. Over time you can build a reputation (that can be good and bad). Can be time consuming and addictive.

2. Adwords - Works better for some niches than others. When it works it really works well. Can be expensive. There is a learning curve.

3. Youtube - I have not done any Youtube for my you IM site, but it can be huge if you have real information and can put together a video that people want to watch. ALWAYS put a link in your description so that people can easily follow to your website. Videos can be extremely time consuming to create, edit and produce.

I usually submit articles to places like EZA for a quick surge in visitors.

Than I try and get my articles on the blog ranked in the search engines via social bookmarking them.

Depending on what niche you are in you should not be trying to send visitors via PPC, it could get very expensive.

If you are trying to gain visitors for a blog than I recommend trying to get ranked high for a good keyword.

Forum posting is always a great way too.

As I've seen some people do use Angela and Paul's Link Building to gain more traffic because it will put your site into Page Rank #1 in Google. You can PM me for the link.

I have submitted one of our sites to dmoz, but my understanding is that it is very hard to get accepted and time consuming. Thanks!

Eric, Thanks for the ideas! I just started with article submission today. I have noticed that many here rely on it. Some of our sites are associated with industrial automation. Is there a technical article site for such articles?

driving traffic is king to your success.ppc as what one of the warriors mentioned might be pretty expensive for now,i suggest you stick to forums,article submission sites like ezine and probably yahoo answers.Of course not to leave out sending newsletter updates about your products to your opt-in list

Cool! I haven't messed with yahoo answers in years. I do need to get better at sending newsletters. I have a pretty regular newsletter I send on one site and it does get a nice big surge everytime I pump it out.

A popular story on a social media site is tens of thousands of visitors over a few hours at minimum. Can be 100k+ over days.

They can be mysterious and frustrating to figure out, which is mostly a drawback for people who give up easily.

I use a combination of methods to bring traffic to my website and blogs. I write new content on my website on a regular basis. This leads to a better rank on Google especially for my new blog posts. I also use Directory submission from time to time to build back links. I use article distribution once every month and send out 1 press release every month. I want to share with you a few forms of traffic. Some of them are very powerfull. I give you some tips from our marketing shool. You can use free or paid ads.

Free:

- CraigsList. Craigslist is a central netwotk of online communities, featuring free clasifieds advertisments and forums of various topics. Craigslist is EXTREMELY high traffic website that you can effectively use to get some excellent traffic for your webiste.

- Free classifieds ads. There are tons of free classifieds ads where you can put your ads. for ex: UsFreeads, Backpage, Inetgiant,Bestwaytoclassified.
You can here aslo paid for your ad for increase traffic.

- Of course Twitter. Everybody know that twitter is very powerfull.

- Article marketing is also very powerfull. If you know how to use it you can have a huge free traffic from search engines.

-Forum marketing...put signature link and give some good report.

- Video marketing. We have learned how to make a quick video within 10 minutes. Put your videos on youtube anb other video portals. Video marketing is also free and you can have a huge traffic from search engines, but you have know how to do it.

- Safelist marketing. The advantage of safelist marketing is that 90% of members are not successfull. This give you a big opportunity to advertise your business.

-Traffic exchange. The same think just like in safelist marketing. 90% of members are not successfull. The trick is to join as many traffic exchanges as possible (that is rule for safelist too). You get some free credits so is possible to have 2000-5000 visitors in first 10 days. Just search in google for traffic ecxhanges and safelists.

These are some of forms for free advertisements.

Now some paid ads.

- Everybody knows google adwords, but don´t forget that there are some others pay per click sites where you can put your ad. On these sites there are not competition because everybody use google...

- Solo ezine ads. These is very powerfull low cost marketing. The founder of our school Vick Strizheus is expert in low cost marketing and I am very very gratefull that I learned from him powerful tricks.

These are some quick tips for quick results in your business. I mentioned especially free form of advertisement. I hope that you apreciated.

Great stuff! Yes I understand from my older sites that content is king! Much of your work is done for you over time if you have good content. You mention reliable hosting. Are you simply thinking of up time or can your web host affect a ranking some how?

I really am going to have to break down and look into the social sites.

Though this may appear to be self serving, another method is to run a promotional sweepstakes to create buzz and drive traffic to your site. Sweepstakes done right have proven to be an extremely effective, almost foolproof marketing strategy. The key to making the traffic targeted is to promote the offer to your niche so you need to go to the places the people in your niche hang out.

Awesome! Thanks for all the ideas! I am embarassed to say I have never even been on twitter. I guess I can put that in my column with social web sites. I have done a lot with videos so you may be able to put together videos in 10 minutes, but it takes time to work your skills up to the point where you can record, edit, produce and post the video quickly. Can be verrrrry time consuming. Of course also very effective. I get several youtube subscribers a day and many of them port over to my site.

You guys are amazing. I would have never thought of a sweepstakes. I have seen what I would guess could be termed a sweepstakes for developing new forum traffic, but never thought about it for a site before. I would have to look carefully into what the outlay would be.

Thanks, I have looked into hub pages a little. My new web site is not really well enough developed to submit to dmoz. I will try that when I get more content. I am still waiting on my content heavy sites for their review. I'm not sure what pingomatic is, but I will check it out.

My sites are all over the place on that. Everything from my B&M engineering company, Industrial training, and Internet marketing (latest addition) I am really looking for as many ideas as I can find. Later I will assemble all the info here and plug it into my various marketing plans as the idea pertain.

One can use Google group, yahoo group, msn group and many more group for building more traffic for their website.

RSS is something that I have not looked into enough. More for my homework list. I have not even heard of the different groups that you mention so I have some research I need to do there. Thanks!

Submite article to high traffic site like Ezinearticles. Create a blog and post article on a daily basis.
Get quality content article and submit them to squidoo and hubpages.

I guess I have been resisting the blogging thing, but it looks to be the easiest way to pump content on a site if it is done regularly. I guess everyone here can tell I have no problems sharing my opinion. I just dont want to send out a bunch of crap. Any content I create I want to be useful.

#4 means when you are naming your post or article... you want the desired keywords in the titles. You'll rank for those terms so much faster.

# 9 means that you have chance to bring in more traffic by going to answers.yahoo.com and answering questions about your niche that others have posted. You can answer the queries and receive link back to your site this way. Also helps establish your name in the market.
Some sneakier folks go in, ask a question with one ID, then go answer with a different ID.

I personally use a combo of backlink building..like blog commenting..3 way linking services and article marketing. Works really well for me.

In my case, 82% of traffics to my site comes from SEs (mainly Google). The remaining are direct and referral traffics.

I got this info from Google Analytics.

How i achieved this?

I concentrate on adding unique contents to my site on regular basis and targeting for long tail keywords.

Keyword research is crucial before deciding on what content/pages to be added to my site.

I only targeting for keywords with high KEI at all three major SEs.

This is what i'm focusing now.

Other than that, i also did some marketing via directory submission, SEO, and link exchange.

Now only i'll start exploring on how i can gain from social networking site.

What I do for others, I have not get my own site up and running yet.

1. Set up an online calaendar to mamage your promotions.
2. Create a facebook account and install the twitter application because this will allow every tweet to show up on your home page.
3. Create a flickr account if applicable
4. Promote in other blogs by leaving a relevant comment with your URL.
5. Good and upodated content
6. A blog
7. A squidoo and hub page to drive traffic to your site
8. Keyword research for articles
9. Drive traffic through articles put the content first o nyour site and then link to Ezine Articles.
10. Make meaningful comments daily on forums in your niche.

All of the above should make you an authority figure by promoting and bbranding your web precense

Yeah adwords can get expensive quick and I think even those that have been using for years have to constantly adjust to keep up the market changes. I am still using it, but sparingly on a few low cost picks. It’s amazing the difference in costs between buying clicks in the US/Canada versus some other countries. You can go from .05 to .3 for the same search. Also different industries really vary. On some of my sites $1.50 will barely buy a click. Other sites I can get clicks for .10-.15.

I never thought about buying sigs. I have seen them for sale, but never really thought about it past that. Interesting… Exchanges are also a good idea.

Backlinks I am working on now. Meta-tags and keywords are simple, but easy to overlook in all the rush to do everything else. That keyword density thing must be an art. I have a hard time writing with keywords and not the subject at mind. The URL thing is huge. I could not get past being #2 on yahoo and I think it was the url. I got a new url that’s better, but young. Oh well … like a fine wine.

There are some very good automated "bots" out there that submit articles to hundreds of directories, press release bots to distribute your press releases to 25 of the top, free online Press Release Services with one click.

Also a directory bot that will submit your site to hundreds of directories with one click and you can submit your RSS Feeds to major online aggregators automatically.

Build a list and involve your social networks to draw familiar/"warm" traffic and write articles and backlink to draw random/"cold" traffic. There are a lot of tools available to you. Use as many as you can. No traffic is bad traffic.

Do keyword research to determine what keywords you want to target.
Period creating your website you should do the following:

• Use markup to indicate the content of your site
  • Create unique Meta Tags for each page
  • Use header tags appropriately (H1 > H2 > H3)
  • Use <b> and <i> tags if appropriate
• Optimize your URLs
  • Use keywords in your domain
  • Use keywords in your URL (example.com/keyword2/keyword3.html)
  • Use dashes or underscores to separate words in your URLs (keyword2-keyword3.html)
• Optimize your content
  • Use keywords liberally yet appropriately in every each page
  • Write unique content
  • Write quality content
• Use search engine friendly design
  • Create a human sitemap
  • Do not use inaccessible site navigation (JavaScript or Flash menus)
  • Minimize outbound links
  • Keep your pages under 100K in size
  • Keep the number of links on a page to less then 100
• Design the navigational structure of the site to channel PR to main pages (especially the homepage)

I have had similar results with my mature sites. A regular newsletter can really boost your repeat visitors. I don’t know maybe you are referring to using a list which I have not done. I do have great success reminding users to come back to the site with some type of email.
