Frankly, I'm puzzled - why anybody still uses this stupid email opener!

I just got an email today that started out this way:

Code:
Frankly, I'm puzzled. Yesterday I sent you the details
on how to get XXXXXXX for free.
And then it goes on about how he didn't see my name on the list of people who signed up.

I've had emails before that thinly veiled that there may be something wrong with me that I didn't jump on their offer even if it was free.

Does this tactic really work? I don't respond in real life to this - "What are you, Stupid?" - and I sure don't respond online. I'll drop your emails in a heartbeat.

I often unsubscribe from pushy lists, unless they provide GREAT value - Which they rarely do.

Why would you want something free to read, when you probably have a lot of other things to do, as well as you get loads of freebies from other guys as well?

I haven't gotten any emails of that kind, but I would definitely unsubscribe immediately.

Why do we still have marketers complaining about marketing
'tricks' simply because they are marketers and have seen
the same strategies so often so they take them for granted
that they do not work when they work on people who are in
    the target market?

Does it work. YES! That's why people still use it.

One fact you should know about marketing: You
will get tired of your own advertising a lot quicker
    than your prospects.

When marketers complain about marketing techniques
these complaints don't count. I prefer to hear prospects
    complain.

Yes, I guess I lost my focus for a bit. Although I am a marketer and shouldn't rant about another marketers tactic if it works for them. I also realize that this may be a way to weed out the tire-kickers so it could be useful.

I am a prospect too. Although this is something that wouldn't work for me and I hope I don't resort to using this on someone maybe it does work but the person using it may get a fair number of people unsubscribing from their list.

Point taken. As a marketer to marketers (B2B) you have to know
your target audience enough to know what they have seen before
and their numbness to your message.

I do have a separate email account for lists.

Thanks for the idea. I never thought of that. Although I do have separate folders for different marketers emails I follow I don't use them for "swap files". I guess I'm lazy, all that housekeeping on my computer! I mostly use them for videos and info I want to get back to later.

Kinda reminds me of way back when I read some materials which advocated a personalized, emotional appeal with loaded questions in response to any negative. "I only share this with people I trust, what is it about me you don't trust?" and "I'm disappointed you won't even give it a try, when did you decide you can't succeed at anything new?" and things along those lines with a followup leading affirmative ready for the inevitable response, like "then you should trust me about this opportunity, right?" or "then you know you can succeed with this?"

Too bad we don't have a magic headline that will work in every case. That way people could just use it all the time, never try something new, get great open rates, and never bug anyone.

    Maybe this is it...

To me, it boils down to this....Do you want to be an e-mail list marketer that uses this sort of "e-mail marketing psychology" to boost short term sales at the expense of lowering your list's perceived value among your list members?

There is no right answer....It's a matter of do you want more sales now and less over a long period of time or vice versa.

Who knows? I don't have the answers but I will say that I don't employ tactics like this and I have been happy with my list results among all of my niches.....To me, if it ain't broke, I'm not going to fix it.
