1,254 reviews... for a T-shirt

Some of these are really funny.

Amazon.com: The Mountain Men's Three Wolf Moon...Amazon.com: The Mountain Men's Three Wolf Moon...
The marketing lesson? If you can get just a few of the right kinds of comments about your product, you may well start something like this. I know several people who've ordered this shirt after going there to read these "reviews."

An even cooler thing: When you're talking about this kind of "review," you can pretty much go hog wild and write them yourself. No-one will care.

OMG - those are hilarious!! The funny part is that as I'm reading this stuff, I'm actively visualizing this in my mind. Someone is destined for a career of writing ezinearticles!! (in between trips to Walmart).

    That was great!

That is awesome, I love this:

"I mean, one wolf howlin at the moon is major...but three??? "

    and

"I tore it open, and I SWEAR angels sang. I think it was Freebird. I immediately removed my "No Fat Chicks" shirt, and replaced it with this finery. Lemme tell you: AW YEAH"

Fantastic...How the hell did you stumble onto this gem, Mr. Myers? Too much time on yer hands?

it was a joke off of the 'Misc' forum from bodybuilding.com where they have the joke that nothing is more 'bad ass' than a wolf shirt. They went and raided amazon.com with all kinds of comments for laughs.

  • Trying to recreate something like this would be akin to trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to make something go viral - it's certainly not and I've done it with great success over the years.

But this particular instance is one of those purest types of viral - meaning that there is absolutely no "push" for it from anywhere. It just happened and snowballed. No one planned it and no one actively monitors it. It all just started one day when a guy decided to leave a funny review and then he probably showed it off to a few of his friends on a forum, who decided to do the same.

I'm sure you see my point:

So many marketers try to push their "viral" campaigns and then complain when they realized that doing so is like pushing a rope - it just doesn't work.

The very definition of viral is indicative of that. So my advice is to plan your campaigns accordingly and let them go.

    Dang Paul.

I read that review and almost ordered three shirts - one for me and two for my girth. Then it hit me - my wife'd kill me if I brought any more wolf honeys home! Shoot. Why didn't I come across this shirt when I was young and single.

    God bless,

    Andy

When I saw the headline for this thread I knew exactly what shirt you were talking about. This has been on Reddit and I think Digg.

    Darn Paul,

I thought you were going to give me 1,254 reviews if I sent YOU a t shirt. I was going to get you a good one too.

Just out of curiousity, did you get the idea that one person was writing all of these? I can't put my finger on it, but there was certain things I was picking up on while reading through these....

Gosh, these were funny....and the video that was embedded in the reviews was beyond great...

    Paul,

We need you to get your pic up wearing the 3 Wolf T Shirt. I'm thinking your girth might fit. Actually I meant the girth of your head. :p

Allen should get one too. I bet traffic to the WF would quadruple overnight with a shirt like that!
