I feel like a TOTAL IDIOT posting this, but how would you monetise this domain?

If you're comfortable in front of a camera and have a willing female you could always do a subscription based website for what is essentially a sex manual. I dont mean performing acts (unless you want to), I just mean talking and having a female there for input.

There are a number of meanings to the word "kink" . . .

1. A twist or curl in a rope, thread, or wire

2. A whim, a notion, a mental twist

3. Muscle stiffness or soreness

4. A flaw or imperfection that hinders the operation of something like a machine or plan

5. The deviant or bizarre sexual preferences (as you originally intended)

So find an alternate definition that you like and go with it.

How about . . .

Kinkology - Choosing the right chiropractor for your back or neck pain!

Just get a little creative.

Find a drop shipper who stocks the 50 shades line of adult merchandise
Create a website which lists these product
Create a beginners guide to bondage based on the scenes in the book.
Link these to relevant page on your site

Release a press release showing that Americans are going bondage crazy thanks to 50 Shades of Grey (movie is released on 14th Feb) you might want to do this before the film comes out as you don't want to miss the Valentines Day rush.

Offer commission to adult stars to promote to their list.

Send me 20% royalties

Don't put yourself down James. You are not an idiot for asking a question.

You have the words ology behind the kink so that would suggest some kind of knowledge on the subject. So a blog regarding the main subject that you intended would probably be a good fit for this domain.

Yes there are people in this niche who want to expand their knowledge in the said area.

Another idea is you can use it to sell some kind of affiliate product that fits the name.

Honestly, a domain doesn't really mean much at all. Take a solid business, put it behind a lackluster domain and it will still perform great. Take a non-business, put it behind a world-class domain and it will still perform terribly.

If you have a solid sex industry business, put it behind the domain. If you don't have a business at all, just sell the domain.

I like this idea! I don't think my girlfriend would be up for it in any way, and I have a corporate type job so I can't really be in videos online talking about the psychology behind kink, BUT you've definitely given me some food for thought.

I agree completely with this.

Personally, I'd sell the domain-name. If (as I suspect) you're unfamiliar with the industry you were thinking of, I'd expect that to be a far better monetization-prospect for you than trying to use it yourself.

Personally, I would just sell the domain-name. I'm perhaps biased, though (because I've bought and sold a few hundred domain-names over the years. Not in the market for this one, though - I almost never buy for more than reg-fee - just clarifying that!).

I think that if you don't know "the industry" it's far from clear that you'd add any realistic value by putting a website on it.

It seems to me that it's a domain-name that's marketable on its own. Just my own impression.

However, to try to do this sensibly, you do need either domain-name-selling skills (it's a complicated, skill-based business: it's emphatically not a matter of "just listing the domain for sale somewhere and awaiting offers") or a broker to handle it for you.

Thanks - that's great advice. If I found a broker (and assuming they didn't take all of the money, haha!) what do you think I could achieve for this one? Just based on your experience, obviously - don't mind if you want to send a PM instead of posting. Obviously not expecting you to buy it, just interested to know your thoughts

In the Kindle world, erotica writers get the toughest time of them all trying to find sites that allow erotica to be marketed or reviewed - I'd go with a graphic header that emphasized the "ink" in Kink - (there's a catchphrase for you straight away: "Putting the kink in ink."
Then I would put good SEO into practice on the site and start promoting it as an ebook erotica review site and build relationships with writers who need an extra avenue of promotion. Add the site to as many web directories as possible that relate to that market and do affiliate promotions to Amazon books and writing guides for authors - maybe even get some arbitrage going with a PR service for authors that you outsource. Other than that, I like the muscle stiffness one that Steve B suggested.
