Why do valuable threads get removed from here?

exactly what the title says... Why?

People post valuable info that makes sense and few hours later it's deleted.

I posted a detailed thread with examples how to write successful solo ads and how to get a high conversion and it was deleted. It just doesn't make sense. The only people who'd have issue with such a solo ad would be bad solo ad sellers.

Possibly because there is a duplicate thread already existing somewhere on the forum.

I doubt it that there's a duplicate post about it. I don't think anybody posted this info. Usually they would sell this info if they even sell it.

There are many reasons this could happen. Just because it's valuable info. doesn't mean it doesn't violate the rules in some way.

I have had a thread deleted because of one complaint when it clearly did not violate the rules. I replied to the moderator's PM and quoted the relevant rule but no answer.

I am not stupid. I am one of the rare people who always read the fine print, and I am certain there was no infringement, but unfortunately there is no appeal permitted. Maybe they must not be seen to lose face.

Here is part of what I sent to the moderator and it was ignored:

Quoted from the Being a Better Moderator thread:

"One of the guidelines I always used when I was moderating was a question: Is the information in this post useful on its own, without needing to buy a product? If so, it's a valid post. If not, it's not."

      "
If someone contributes, and their expertise actually helps others, those are the people we want to know about when we need products or services on that topic. They're not just posting articles or one-offs. They're putting personal time and experience into helping the group.

      Should we make them invisible?

That's not really in the group's best interest, is it?

Look at it another way. If it passes the test above, it's adding value. If they happen to make sales through their sig file, that just offsets a little of the time they put into the post
      ."

I also pointed out the benefits to the forum membership as follows (in my words): "I hope you agree that the rules quoted above have been largely responsible for generating posts (including mine) that have provided invaluable information to members. I believe it would be a great loss to the community if their contributions were lost for fear of them making an occasional sale."

I have made nearly 1,000 posts and received not only numerous thanks, but also many have posted replies with thanks expressed, so I think I at least deserve a reply, if not a review of the decision.

Once such post, when I was absent from the forum for a while and a tricky question went unanswered read: "Where's Importexport when we need him?"

I must admit that since this moderator's decision I have been absent a lot more. The question is: "Why bother?"

I don't think it violated any rules. It's too bad.

I can't even remember whether I saw it, but my guess, from what you say, is that someone perhaps thought it was self-promotional? And if that's the case, then it will rightly be deleted whether it adds value or not. You can perhaps imagine what a forum with over 800,000 members would rapidly look like, if anything self-promotional were allowed in posts starting off new threads?

Meanwhile, paragraph #5 of this post may help you, in explaining why this thread, too, will probably soon be either closed or removed.

Nope. No self promotion. Just pure details how to do it successfully.

Sorry, I was only guessing (and that's often the reason).

There's another possibility, here, too: the forum is partly self-moderated, and if a few members all "report" the same post, for whatever reasons, that "soft-deletes" it until an official Moderator takes a look. It's not impossible for posts to which that happens to re-appear, later, if the Moderators don't agree with the "reporting members".

But in general, we don't find out, and just have to follow the advice "Don't re-post; don't ask" (as explained above).

Although I tried humor..im basically saying even if your post is removed..the rules state that you can not make another post about that post being removed

Moderation without appeal always sours me, or even asking why a thread is deleted with no answer..it makes me not care about the forum im in and the worthlessness of contributing

Especially if mods dont even execute their own policies correctly

And especially if there is a community based watchgroup..ay least have a discussion why itvwas deleted due to community flagging

Some of us find them quite appealing.

Give it time. There isn't always a moderator online, I think.

Many things are judgment calls, you know? People whose threads are deleted are often/usually going to feel miffed about it. If threads like this were really allowed, then the front page of the forum would be full of them, perhaps? And that would really give people something to complain about? I'm "just saying" ...

Coolidge, given the sheer number of self-promotional threads, your thread might have been caught in a deletion spree when a moderator had to catch up. It's just a guess, but if it's true, then blame it on the low-brow members which* start off threads with the sole purpose of promoting their crappy products and services. They are the reason the moderators need to delete so many threads here and don't have time to examine each one. Actually, they are the reason so many people left this forum. Look at it now: it's a ghost town compared to what it once was.

Anyway, don't worry about it: everyone gets their posts/threads deleted sometimes, even if we don't have the slightest intention to blatantly self-promote our signature. Just to show everyone that I'm such a nice guy, I disabled my signature for this post.
