New to Domain Buying and Selling. Are these Domains any good?

Hi, I've probably gone about this all the wrong way! But anyway...I've read a bit about domain flipping so decided to search for a few terms etc to see if I could find any domain names that might sell.

I've bought these three.

bestnewyorkdentists.com
findlowcostflights.com
myshares.me

They might be terrible and I've wasted £30. Wanted to email to see people's thoughts and whether I'm along the right lines. Seems pretty hard to find ones that haven't already been bought. Crazy that people are buying random 3/4 letter ones for so much.

I'm not looking to make loads on these - just to see if people who actually know about domain buying/selling thought I was along the right lines or not? Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks a lot,
Dave

The second one looks good. You can probably develop it into a good website.

I don't see any value, personally. It's looks like you were just buying exact match domains, I assume, with the first two. The .me extension is useless, in my opinion. Not that they can't be developed into something but just as domains, nothing special.

I used to own best boston dentists dot com. It was a lot of work with almost no return. My site was listed well in the serps, but nobody wanted to buy leads or links.

I wound up using it for adsense, and it was ok, but not stellar and I did not renew it.

The idea of creating a domain and collecting leads for local businesses has been passed on by. It was always a good idea, but Google Local or wahtever they call it now, has ground domains like that into dust.

The one about low cost flights has more possibilities if you target a particular niche; like low cost flights for seniors, or women or a particular geo-localized group. That might work.

I don't know what the my shares was would do. It could probably do most anything.

Interested in selling those leads from Boston?

I would love to buy them for you on a CPA basis if you still have some traffic going to the site.

        Sincerely your friends at 1800dentist.

Those domains are high risk in a domaining sense. It's unlikely that anyone is ever going to contact you to buy them and I doubt that you had any specific end user sales prospects in mind when you bought them. Get a refund if you can. Some places offer a grace delete period.

Most 3 letter .coms are worth high four figures minimum because of how many companies have those initials.

Random 4 letter .coms are a lottery ticket. Most don't sell for much more than registration fee in reseller to reseller sales (if they sell at all). Some domainers sit on a large number of them hoping that if they demand $1,000+ someone will come along and pay it and make the overall investment in the group worthwhile.

Thanks for your feedback. I've signed them up with Sedo.com Is that a good system do you use would you say? Annoyingly I bought them with one.com, which I like, but seems it isn't one of their main suppliers so can't do the premium exposure so that they are seen on a load of other sites too. Is there a better site to buy domains from and get them out there?

Also, if anyone had any tips on the best types of domains to buy and why, that would help so much.

    Thanks again.

Not really, short domains are great.

Of the bunch, the second is the best in terms of practical immediate return. You could turn the third one into a social platform if you have the resources. I can think of all kinds of ways to use that one.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.

Thanks. If I'm honest, I don't even know what a directory is! I got excited about searching for names. I will do a lot of research now before buying anything else!

The good news is finding low cost flights has mass appeal. (2nd option)
The bad news, someone has to stay on top of the flight info since it tends to be constantly changing.

Thanks, Gforce. Do you think I could sell finding low costs flights for any money if I wanted to resell quickly now? Need to read up on seo/advertising etc whilst it's parked

    Thanks

    Quick impressions ...

The first isn't horrible (and would be great without the "best").

The second isn't horrible (and would be great without the "find").

I don't like the third at all.

Not quite sure in what context you're asking, Dave? I'm looking only at resale potential, not "own use potential". I've bought and sold a few hundred domain-names over the years, as a "sideline business", and both your first two are related to types I look for, register, and try to sell at a profit.

My guess is that "findlowcostflights" might actually be the best of the three.

If they help at all, my own general thoughts on "domain-name values" are in this post from yesterday: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post9832342

    Good luck!

Thanks, I tried both without the best and find but they were taken. I completely understand about only being worth what someone wants to pay and it's about me finding and contacting those people.

My shares.me I was thinking of some online stocks and shares community but obv without making the site, it prob isn't worth anything.

I was hoping people would see and bid on my domains by coming across them on Sedo but I'm not sure how likely that is.

The first two might have some potential, and you're right about the 3rd one, probably isn't worth anything. Good luck though!

A word of caution. Never use the word "best" in a domain name that is meant for anyone in the medical profession (Dentists, doctors, etc.). It's considered unethical to proclaim you're the "best" doctor or dentist - it goes against their code of ethics. It is an unverifiable claim.

Thanks guys. I've sold the Dentist one which was good. I'm debating whether to put findlowcostflights on Flippa.. Have tried a bunch of travel companies and not heard back. I have flightstochile.com Im looking to sell too.

Be good to know what you think the best outlet to sell them on would be?

    Thanks again.

I think the same as I've thought for the last 5 years, during which I've bought and sold a few hundred domain-names, Dave: what a domain-name is worth to you depends on what someone will pay you for it, and that depends almost entirely on your own skills at identifying, approaching and negotiating with people to whom the domain-name potentially has artificial value above and beyond its reg-fee, becasue of the nature of their own businesses.

It's not really about "where you sell them": it's about how good you are at notifying potentially interested parties that they're for sale. If you don't do that successfully, then it makes no difference where you sell them.

Try putting up an affiliate site on your findlowcostflights domain, dohop is one good example, then sell it on flippa as a starter site. Shares.me can also be used for a site that sells social media likes/shares/follows. They will always have some value once you put websites on them. Good luck!
