So, being a total newbie in regards to Wordpress, now I am even MORE confused, lol! Could not figure out how to install a new theme and really, I've been playing with this for days now. Even had another thread going on the subject were somebody posted information. Now, my head is spinning and I can't find the thread . Found the tutorials in video format on hostgator and yes, there was a video on how to install themes . Watched it 3 times, wrote down every step and back to Wordpress.Clicked on Appearance, then install new theme, found one that I liked but it said either preview or install? No upload button, no need to use file manager in Cpanel, just hit install and there it is. So, I activated it and yes, it is there! According to Hostgator (but it's for version 2.7), the following procedure is supposed to be required: File manager in Cpanel, click upload button, browse for the theme, click on your folder, Open, find file, click file icon,, extract, enter location, /public_html/blog/wp-content/themes,, extract, close, go to theme manager, refresh, theme link, click, activate, go to site. With so totally different ways I am sitting here scratching my head...Has Wordpress 2.8 really made it that easy to upload a theme? Can someone enlighten me please ![]() , thanks, Eva

Either way will work, I use the 2nd method if I am uploading a theme to more than one site. John |

Thanks for clarifying that . Its just that Wordpress did not give me an option. What is the advantage of using the second method when uploading a theme to more than one site?

You should be able to go to Appearance then look up in the top of the page. There is a button to Install Themes. Click on the down arrow and go to Upload. Click on Select Files and browse to the zip file on your computer. It has to be zipped in order for it to work. John |

Eva, keep it simple. Use the theme install from within WordPress if you are installing Wordpress themes from WordPress.org If you are using premium or custom themes, then you would use an FTP program and you would upload the theme into the wp-content/themes directory and then activate your theme by clicking "Appearance" in your WP dasboard, and selecting the theme you want and clicking "activate" good luck |

Use what is easier for you. I do recommend that you become familiar with FTP if you want to continue using wordpress. You will need it for installing plug-ins, themes, modifying critical files, and in case Wordpress's automatic features do not work. It may seem daunting at first but it is really not. |
