Does anyone on here have any training courses that they sell?

I am thinking about putting together a webinar style training course to sell through my website and email list, maybe including a sales funnel also.

Is it best to do it independantly or maybe use platforms like Udemy instead.

Any thoughts on this?

If you do it on your own site, you can build your own brand and "academy" .. It will be harder to gain the initial attention on your own though!

I have courses on both Udemy and my own site.

Udemy is nice as their's already an audience. However, they control your product. They change the price. They'll change your images. They'll change your write-up. Etc.

    So, that's annoying.

Your own site is great because you control everything. However, if you don't already have an audience - you will have a lot of work ahead of you.

    Yeah, this was my assumption.

More work on own website and more work, but a lose of control on Udemy and similar sites.

I think I may use Udemy as like a training or testing site so I can get the training as close to its best as possible.

At least with Udemy I can release a course that will be my minimum viable product and link to my "Academy" on my website for a more advanced training if that is allowed.

My feeling is that this is a really great way to think about it; in my experience, and from what I've observed with many Udemy instructors' courses, it's a very useful test bed to try out and grow ideas and courses.

I have a training course membership that I sell on my own site. It takes work to get a good site together but it will pay off as long as you take the time to send website traffic to it. Good Luck.

Yeah. My traffic is my major problem a the moment. Its not one of my greatest skills.

I am thinking about starting to pay for it, maybe hiring a VA to handle the traffic.

I can then just concentrate on my articles and creating the best training possible.

Hey Mrnace - if you find / get the traffic FIRST and then build your product you'll have much more success. Products don;t matter of nobody sees it! So reverse your plan...

Also, you should work on your skills of getting traffic first, that is MUCH harder to outsource then writing or making products...

      Cheers

  • You can do WSO and Udemy. You will atleast get some traffic to your courses and you can build your list. I struggled a lot to build my list without a good source of traffic. Not only is it important to have a lot of traffic but quality traffic. If your traffic is full of people who aren't interested in your product then you're really wasting time.

Yeah. They traffic is my main issue.

When I am only getting upto 300 visitors a month to my site, its a big issue.

I'll have to find a way to sort my traffic out.

I am thinking of hiring somebody to look at this for me, simply becase I don't know what I can be doing different in my situation.

I am seriously looking starting website totallt from scratch also.

Getting rid or re writing all the bad content and articles on the site.

I have done this and still do, depending on what your market niche is, you might do better on your own site. If you are not too mainstream, if you have something really different but that relates to a segment of Udemy, you might do better there.

You do not want to be lost on Udemy, and that is easy to do unless you make a strong effort to promote your course.

You could use Udemy to create some interest in your training, but I would brand myself and my training independent of someone else' platform.

Udemy takes way to many liberties when you use their platform. And IMHO they are a fad that you can take advantage of right now, but don't put your eggs in their basket and put yourself at their mercy.

The webinar style training is something you can charge a premium for (its that personal touch) and you loss that option with Udemy.

    Okay.

My own Platform is best. I'll develop the course over the next couple of weeks and keep looking at building regular, good quality traffic to the website.

    Thanks

Udemy is good for initial exposure if your site is new and does not have many visitors. Once you have a good volume of consistent traffic it makes sense to host your training videos on your website.

It is not easy to create and host your own course, but it can certainly be done.

It took me about 18 months to bring everything together for mine, and I am really glad I did it on my own.

Look at Moodle, aMember, Wordpress and a php programmer to help you cover the bases and bring it all together. Moodle will be the hardest part to master.

But once you do it, you'll have a magical revenue generator that nobody else can dip their fingers into.

Then, you can focus all of your attention on driving traffic.

Traffic is a definite problem on my site. unless I haven't installed analytics properly on my website, I'll struggle to get 300 visits to my website.

Not being that good at even basic coding, putting the analytics code in the right places and all the places it should be is something that is playing on my mind to be honest.

I have spent hours sharing on social media, talking on forums and so on, but traffic hasn't really increased.
