It still amazes me every time I run across Markus Frind . And its phenomenal he was a one man show from his one bedroom apartment clearing $10 million a year while forming one of the largest Online Dating Sites ever, Plenty of Fish.

He did it all by himself for the longest time and rarely put in more than 2 hours work a day.

yeah, although this story is inspiring and a great example of the good things that can happen with some drive and creativity , it is not really duplicatable with this specific example...that is trying to start an Online Dating Service and take it to this level

Markus Frind undoubtedly has a great story, but so do the group of kids who found a Ferrari in their back yard (see: The True Story Of How A Ferrari Ended Up Buried In Someone's Yard) -- but those kids' story doesn't "motivate" me to start digging up my property searching for Italian sports cars.

Perhaps if people got their motivation from their own achievements rather than from the achievements of people who were either really talented, really lucky (or more likely both) they wouldn't give up so easily when they didn't make $100,000 their first month in business. If you want to dream about easy riches read a fairy tale -- entrepreneurship is hard work.

Of course not - it's the NEW product that makes the big bucks....the dozens that try to copy it don't do as well...ever.

The $$ numbers in the article go to 2006. I know it's a highly profitable site today but it's much like JohnR's million dollar launch day in 2003....10 years later the site/product is used as example of "how you can succeed".

They are good examples of success - but the ten years or more span gives you an idea how often someone truly earns a "fortune" with a great idea online.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

This kind of thing is what really hurts IM, IMO. Sure, somebody has and still can make millions online with the right idea and flawless execution.

But the problem, of course, is that people hear these kinds of remarkable rare events and begin believing there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to do the same thing.

Millions of dollars a year working just 10 hours a week!

It's one thing to get some motivation from the success of others . . . it's quite another to duplicate their success which rarely ever happens.

Every online business owner is different and brings a unique skill set and previous experience to this business. Every market is different, every niche is different, and times are constantly changing. Demand in the marketplace changes, so do economic times and audience preferences.

Take heart what others have done, but realize that wishing you could do the same thing is pretty much a total waste of time.

"If wishes were fishes, we'd have a big fry,
if horse poop were biscuits, we'd eat 'til we die!"

Mindboggling... He actually did something different then any others. We all just always try to jump from here to there. But he always was stick on his work and never gave up. That's really cool.

    Keep the dream alive people.

You may not want to make as much as POF Founder however more than likely you can accomplish much more than you think you can: Especially with the right "mindset." (And, providing you have a good/sound idea and consistent work ethic …)
