Selling Domains - Are some Industry End Users Better Than Others to approach?

Hi, I know there's some great authorities here on Domains, Gene and the gang, that I wanted to ask about approaching end users.

Would you say some industries are more open to buying domains, receiving such query emails then others? And that they would be more open to purchasing them?

I imagine Finance, Internet, Travel and Technology related would be more open than say Property, Dentists, Doctors, Sport or other such industries where this could be quite a foreign concept to them. I'm not basing this assumption on anything, just my initial thoughts as I imagine some people who have never heard of or bought domains for traffic increase would be reluctant to go for it.

Also, is the IT Manager or Registar the best person to contact? Would it be someone in Marketing as it's about Business Growth...

Any thoughts would be awesome.
Thanks.

I usually target Adwords competitors and those competing on the first 3 or so pages of Google for the relevant keyword. I contact domain owners rather than staff.

Would you bother emailing a domainadmin@website.com email address? Will anyone see that, or is finding people on LinkedIn an option?

    Cheers

It's swings and roundabouts, to some extent, I think (if you have that idiom, wherever you are, Dave?).

The ones in niches/industries that can command higher prices can be a little harder to sell to, and vice-versa.

It pays to be open-minded and avoid assumptions, I think.

My knowledge of "sport" is limited, but in my experience Property, Dentists and Doctors can certainly be pretty good markets.

I think you're going to find that some groups you imagine have never heard of or bought domains are going to be a lot more familiar with it than you expect. Especially doctors and dentists.

The decision-maker is the person you want to contact.

In a medical or dental practice (maybe depending on the size of the practice and whether they have a full-time "marketing person"), it's surprisingly(?) often going to be the doctor or dentist.

These things can also vary quite a bit from country to country. Don't assume that all your sales are going to be to businesses in one country: ".com" domains are used worldwide.

Thanks for your help with me. Lets see what they say!
One last thing - would do you think I should put in the query letter?

Should I say that it returns XXX amount of search returns on Google, that it will forward
traffic to them etc - or should I just present the name to see if they can see any value in it?

Also, when people say domain capture other traffic - how do they actually do that? Is it only if someone types in the said url or will these forwarder sites be listed on google?

    Many Thanks.

      In my opinion, no.

You should explain clearly and concisely the benefits to them of owning the domain-name (with the inference - albeit not overtly stated - that if they don't want to make an offer for it, those benefits will be going to someone else instead of to them).

There are definitely better industries for flipping than others. Selling a good hosting domain is likely going to get way more offers/bids as opposed to a good plumbing domain. Most web-related topics will have a broader range of end users as opposed to local businesses.
