Amazon affiliates, can you answer this?

If I send my targeted traffic to the "add to cart" option for my products, I know the cookie will stay for 90 days and if the customer buys you get the commission.

But what if the customer added other items to there list, do you get commissions for them too or is it just for that 1 product?

Iv never tried sending my traffic to the add to cart option and I'm interested if other affiliates have.

If you have done this, did your conversion rate increase, decrease?

Did your overall sales increase?

Thanks in advanced

While someone is logged on to Amazon via your affiliate link, you get credit for everything they purchase. Of course this will increase your sales volume and will count towards increasing your referral rate.

I see, I read an article a few days ago about someone talking about how you only get a commission on the product you sent them through the add to cart button.

That's good if we do get commissions on all products bought through the 90 days.

      Thanks

not sure where you get 90 days.
According to this from Amazon's websites it's 24 hours (or less)

When you prompt your traffic to click the "add to cart" button, it turns into a 90 day cookie, so if someone buys that product within 90 days you get a commission for it.

What am asking is if someone decided to buy the product but then went on to buy a few others things, do we get commissions for them also or is it just the product from which they added to the cart.

A cookie represents one visit, so if Amazon store cookie information from a referral from your site for 90 days that means anything that is purchased during that period you'll earn a commission in, even if they go back 3 or 4 times!

This is what I'm looking for, have you been using this "add to cart" option your self?

That's well good, I just seen an article or two saying the opposite, so I just wanted to get other opinions from our fellow warriors

      Thanks

That's right, anything the user will buy will get you a commission for 90 days if they used your link.

This thread is full of nonsense.

Close to unbelievable that so many people here can (a) believe total nonsense like this, and (b) try to advise other members about it, too.

Larry, I'm sorry to sound so outspoken, but if you learn one thing from this thread, let it be "Get your information from the horse's mouth rather than relying on forum information". Anne Pottinger replied (accurately, of course) to your question, in the thread's very first reply, but you chose (unaccountably) to misinterpret and even misquote her reply. If you're not going to be advised by people who actually do this for a living, and choose instead to believe random people who put up one-line posts here without knowing what they're talking about at all (and the forum's rarely, if ever, been fuller of that kind of nonsense than it is now), then it's probably safer for you just to get Amazon information from Amazon, and stop asking random people in forums. "Forum information" can help, sometimes, if you know who to listen to, when people reply. But evidently that's a big "if"!

so it automatically adds the item to cart?

sounds like a quick way to get your associates account banned

As Alexa said- so much misinformation in this thread.

Why would this get your account banned?

It is perfectly acceptable under the ToS to do this and Amazon has instructions in the affiliate tools showing to create these links.

Easy Azon and other tools do this, but you can also just build "add to cart" links yourself.

Thanks for everyone's in put here, it's now clear on how it works. Iv always just sent my traffic to the product pages and my current conversion rate is normally between 5-8%.

I think it's time to start testing this "add to cart" idea and see how it goes over the next couple months.

          Thanks again for everyone's input.

          Regards

Respectfully, I think this isn't, at all, the solution to your Amazon problems, Larry, and I recommend that you don't do that.

If your conversion-rates are in single figures, this is a "pre-selling methods" problem (though which part of "pre-selling" can't be determined from information in the thread).

Without seeing everything you're doing, of course, it isn't possible for anyone to offer opinions on your low conversion-rates. This situation has so many potential explanations and remedies, and the reality of any individual's situation is that it's quite likely to be multifactorial, anyway. But I think you're in danger, here, of plucking an irrelevant "solution" out of the air without actually having analyzed the problem accurately at all. Sorry.

This thread has helped many Amazon affiliates here, and would be well worth a careful read-through, if you happen not to have seen it yet: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6608638

Thanks for your thoughts, all my traffic is coming from search engines and most are coming from product keywords with "price", "best", "review" etc.

I understand what you mean. Yeah, Iv been through that before, my site has gained some amount of momentum and I'm just looking for ways to increase sales, clicks and conversions.

Amazon even provide a API to help their affiliates to implement the cart feature called Amazon Product Advertising API, so is clearly an accepted method.

However, I heard that more people were complaining that the conversion rates are lower when using the cart option, because people often add a product to the cart, then they forget to pay it or change their mind.

I contacted Amazon yesterday about this and this was the reply, looks like we don't get commissions on all products except the one the customer clicked the add to cart link.

I think things are getting misinterpreted here so if I may, I'd like to give my two cents.

There are 2 Amazon cookies, one that gives you 24 hours and one that gives you 90 days.
These are both very different in how they work.

If I send you to Amazon via my Aff-Link I earn commission on what you buy for 24 hours regardless of whether you leave and come back to Amazon within the same day.

If I send you to Amazon via my Aff-Link and then you leave the site and buy the item next week, I earn nothing.

If I send you to Amazon via my Aff-Link and you add that product to the cart the cookie now lets me earn commision with whatever you buy for 24 hours but ALSO means if you leave Amazon I can still earn a commision from you with that singular item for the next 90 days.

    -----------------------------------

    To simplify:

You got 24 hours commision on everything unless the user adds-to-cart. Then you have an additional 90 days on the 1st item they added to their cart incase they abandon the purchase at checkout.

    -----------------------------------

    One Last Note:

If you make a sale that means a user must of added an item to their cart. You will NOT get 90 days of commissions from this user... though I sure wish we did!

It is 24 hours not 90 days - sorry. Trust me, 90 days would be awesome. However, that cookie only works on one machine - just one. People who buy an item at work will often buy another one at home later on. I wonder about that commission. Not sure this cookie works to be honest with you.

  • Profile picture of the author jacobhagberg
Just to be clear it is 24 hours unless you are cookie stuffing which I don't advise. Also I see a lot of people trying to cloak links and in general I'd also avoid this as it breaks Amazon's TOS and they can literally take all of your earned commissions that they owe you and shut you down. Note that if you made a sale on Jan 1. You would get paid for that sale on almost April 1. They generally have a net 60 payment system.

I appreciate that you mean well by asking here rather than starting a new thread to ask, but actually this question belongs in the Website Design Forum, and you'd be better off asking it there (as more people who know the answer will see it there: that's "targeting" for you! ).

You don't get a 90 day cookie implemented on users computers. It's only a 24 hour window. However you do get commissions on everything they buy so if you promote an eBook which is $4 on Amazon but they happen to buy a 60" TV for $900, you get a commission on that too.
