Getting TARGETED Twitter Followers?

Hi all,

I just joined Twitter yesterday and already have 10 followers. ???!!! How did these people find me??? I wasn't even trying to get followers yet and I wonder where/how these people found me. I know a couple of them are from this forum, but other than that, I wonder where they came from?

One of them is the creator/promoter of the Twitter Traffic Machine, so it makes sense that he would follow everyone who joins Twitter, no matter who they are. But I'm not the least bit impressed with it because having 10,000 Twitter followers means nothing to me if they're not targeted followers.

I know exactly who my target market is. The question is, how do I get TARGETED followers?

Take a look at this blog entry. It explains how to pick up genuine followers. In doing so, it explains how your followers found you, so you can get some more

Just from the fact that you were brand new, I think. These are people who actually want you to follow them because they're promoting something. They know that a proportion of newbies will "return the compliment" and follow them, and it's a way of building their own base. Twitter has recently been wising up to this and banning them. My guess is that after another month, most of those 10 won't still be on Twitter. Not under those names, anyway.

Go to: http://www.twellow.com, pick your area of interest, and click on the folks you'd like to follow.

If you've got your pic up, bio filled out, and are posting on a regular basis, you'll soon find them following you back.

I've been checking out Twellow and I've found people in my target market. Of course, they're not following me.

So how does this work? If I follow someone, I assume I can see their tweets, but they can't see mine, correct? So just following someone in my target market does me no good (unless they follow me back, of course).

So how do I get those in my target market to see me and know what I can offer them? Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out how to target my specific niches and introduce myself to my target market on Twitter.

Also, how do you send someone a direct message on Twitter? When I was clicking around, I saw how to send someone a direct message, but in the dropdown list, only one of the 6 people I'm following was listed. Does that mean everyone else has chosen not to receive direct messages?

Still trying to wrap my head around Twitter.... Thanks for all of your help on this!

Like I said, you pick them. 90% of them will follow you back if you've got the rest of the equation completed. Bio, pic & plenty of useful posts.

You'll start getting notices (if you've turned it on) within a few hours from those that are following you back.

Nightengale was taken. Grrr! Someone stole my name and as far as I can tell, he has nothing to do with any Nightengale (the bird, the nurse, a name or anything). :P

I see that you have only one update, I look for people and start to follow them and when i start to Tweet about, news or anything i see that usually i start to get followers, i get three to four follower after one tweet, give or take, so the most important is to tweet as much as you can so you will be noticed, but i do not recommend that you try to sell to people on twitter. It is good to tried Twitter followers like a mailing list

Start Tweeting with targeting keywords in your niche I like to use broad niche related keywords like internet marketing CPA offers ect ect. I also like using programs to link blogs Facebook ,Youtube all together it helps build authoritative backlinks as well as get more followers.

I suggest Tweetdeck - you can set up ten columns with different search terms (obviously keywords in your niche OR town names if you are targeting a geographic location like I was)

Then you engage in convos with the people making tweets that show interest in your niche or geographic location.
