How to market a website in a controversial niche

Hello,

Right now I`m trying to sell a website that is involved with smoking (KushAccess) but I`m not sure how I should be marketing the sale since it might be something people don`t want to buy publicly?

I listed it on Flippa and it has quite a few days left so perhaps I`m just worrying for nothing.

If anyone has sold a similar kind of site please let me know some tips.

Thanks!

I just know the feeling of being the unwanted person. Still, the biggest problem is usually finding a web hosting company. Most will kick out anything that is slightly controversial like Charlie Hebdo pics. Well, you can imagine that web hosting services are in a state of near panic. Selling sites is always a problem as people will grab your content and never get around to pay you. They got all kinds of excuses. Most buyers will claim that your sites are garbage and that they do not need to pay. Sadly, this is all too common. Remember to give them a poor review. However, these cats will usually try to find a way to have it taken down so they can scam more mice.

Reality is that strange site can get you in trouble and it is better to steer clear of any gray areas. For example, there was a guy selling abduction insurance. Like if you we abducted by alien grays. Well, you know ones in the flying saucers. Gotta laugh every time, how is the person gonna collect any way.

A niche is a part of the market that is very focused and specific. If you target a niche market, you will be providing products or services that cater to the needs of this specific group - needs that mainstream businesses aren't meeting.

It is important to distinguish between your 'target market' and your 'niche'. Your target market might be pet-owners in Brighton for example, but your niche is the product or service that you specialise in - in this case, perhaps clothing for toy breeds. So, a target market + a niche product/service = niche marketing.

The Best Affiliate Programs in Your Niche:
1.Figure out what products your visitors want to buy.
2.Figure out what products your competitors are marketing.
3.Find affiliate programs in your niche.
4.Compare affiliate programs when there are multiple options.
5.What to do when a merchant you want to promote declines your application

You should really try reading the original thread before you respond.

I think the same strategies apply in any niche.

But maybe just be controversial, if it's a controversial niche.
The answer is in the question.

If the website you're trying to sell is about electronic cigarettes, then I don't think you have a lot of worrying to do. It's a controversial niche, I'll give you that, but give it some time, if you say it's been listed on Flippa for such a short while.

Controversy is good. Embrace it as much as possible regardless of how it might piss off others.

As long as you are NOT causing harm to others.

IDK, but is it possible that WeedMaps has a classified section or something else where you could place an ad?

I developed a product for a controversial niche and while profitable there is nothing I can do to sound convincing enough to grow the business beyond 12k/yr. Wish I hadnt wasted so much time, money and energy even though I saw a definitely in the marketplace and only try to help those who seek it.

You should be good if the site looks awesome and provides value to that niche.
