Passionate hobby niche VS Self-help Niche you have knowledge

I'm currently conflicted between 2 niches

One niche, in the video game industry and the second niche being in Dating advice for men/women.

Passion -
The thing about the gaming niche is that I have some idea's, I can't build a blog and write gaming articles. I have some ideas to monetize it long term - advertising, merchandising, youtube, magazine...maybe somehow come up with a twist that makes the brand stand out from all the other game industry businesses..I have a small group on Facebook with 100 active users weekly...the brand name is memorable and easy to remember. Its basically plug and play and I love this niche (its a hobby close to my heart I can see it long term)
I have faith, but for this business I wouldn't affiliate market anything...Cause I feel like I can bring something new to the table....

Vs

Knowledge -
Dating Relationship/ Dating advice
It's evergreen, one of the top self help niches in IM and I have a vast range in knowledge in helping others. proven expereince in the niche.
I created a blog for it already and set up, already wrote some articles and integrated aweber opt-in. some free ebooks i've created with affiliate links ect. I showed couple buddies but they aren't buying' the brand name thus far, I was thinking of created a product based on my knowledge, maybe sell it. But I'm not sure I should keep going with it...Even with the knowledge, I'm not sure how deep my passion is for it. Its easy money though if I grind on it for awhile...but I dunno about long term, maybe use it as a stepping stone? or should I drop it for the game niche?

I've already started both but I can only focus on one for success this year, which one?

That's a tuff decision, but I may have some insight that could help. I currently have a dating/seduction landing page and autoresponder sequence and I think it's a great niche. The reason I think this is because sexual motivation is the greatest motivating factor on earth, and Clickbank is full of products to promote. If you have solid content to provide for the dating/seduction niche I would recommend focusing on it before gaming. While I understand your passion for gaming, converting that passion into income could prove more difficult due to lack of ClickBank products ect..

That's my thoughts on the matter.. I'm sure whatever you choose though if you FOCUS on it you will be successful! All the best!

I agree that I would tend to lean toward the dating niche over gaming. But, it's difficult to say without knowing more about your sites? Traffic? Revenue? etc.

The only thing I will say is that as Life Naturally said, there's a lack of gaming products on ClickBank which means there could be an opportunity to create a product (or products) in that niche. It's a huge market, and I'm sure there are profitable niches that you could break into, but that would require some market research.

There is money to be made in both. Normally hobby niches are better long-term where problem solving niches are better for the short-term, but dating is an exception because there are so many related products you can sell.

In either case you'll certainly want to drill down further and find a sub-niche. Dating and gaming are both huge MARKETS and you'll have a lot more success appealing to a specific type of person rather than trying to appeal to all of them.

I'd go into a sub-niche of dating personally, but I'm not you.

I personally think that your choice should rely on which one will you have the interest on keeping for the long term. I believe that you like the two topics you presented above but you have to weigh in different factors like: will you be able to keep up on the topic? will you not lose interest on the topic? will you prefer something you enjoy? Those are just some factors you have to consider. Though I think that whichever you choose, you will have an audience. Good luck!

I fall in the same category. I'm a gamer and have made decent money in the gaming niche but you have to look at what pays the bills. If your really passionate about games you should be running a lets play channel on YouTube that generates ad revenue.

I taught my self how to make games and have taught others on my YouTube channel. It was really an untapped niche. very open market.

Mark Cuban said "if you have an exit strategy its not an obsession". Go full time with your gaming niche and be the best at what you do. Hell you don't even have to be the best, just make as many people happy as you can with your product or service.

Go with what is long term, especially if you like it more and have a passion for it.
Dating sites are ok and there is money to be made, but if you're not truly passionate about it you might get bored and turn to your gaming niche after all... your choice!

I have worked on projects I had passion for as well as those I just thought were good opportunities.

In my experience it worked best when I outsourced as much work as I could on the ones I had no real passion for. Of course, you have to find people who do quality work.

I would say work on both of them, just do the work yourself on the one you enjoy and outsource the majority of work on the other project.

      Best of luck!

For anyone here who thinks you MUST follow your passion to make money... you need to read
this article that's in the latest issue of Inc. magazine.

What's Love Got to Do With It? | Inc.com

It tackles this very same question... passion or money?

I think he nailed it on the head.

For those of you who don't know Jason, he has an incredible book called "Rework" and runs a company who puts out Basecamp, a popular tool for biz owners.

I feel this article is a must-read for those who are always wondering "follow my passion or go where the money is"
