I'm looking to make a start in IM. My plan is embryonic to say the least, so please bear with my ignorance. Some time ago, I started writing an ebook about weight loss but got sidetracked and put it on the backburner. Following the advice of writing about something you are interested in, I started this as I used to be a gym instructor and am very intersted in nutrition and the psychology of motivation for weight loss. However, it has not escaped my attention that the competition in this area is brutally fierce. I was planning to have a membership website liked to this which perhaps adds something a bit different. However, I don't want to waste my efforts if the odds really are against me and there is something else I could be doing that has better chances of success. So, bluntly, should I forget about resurrecting my ebook and look at something else? Or, if the product is good and marketed well, could it still be a winner? |

Honestly it really depends on how you plan to market it, if it's going to be just through PPC then yes you might want to consider writing on another topic for your first e-book. But if it's something like SEO or article marketing then you have as good of a shot as anybody else.

Weight Loss is a Tuff market. Maybe you can aim for a Specific kind of people thats looking to lose wieght. This will narrow it down and result in higher targeted traffic and with less compition.

| I have an opinion on this, even though I’m also a newbie. It is true that it is much more difficult to market a topic that is likely to face fierce competition. But I still think that succeeding is still an attainable goal in such circumstances. Even though your niche is widely popular, however, there’s ALWAYS something new you can add to any topic. I strongly believe that there’s no such a thing called “running out of ideas”. If ideas can be “run out of” then the world would have stopped developing thousands of years ago. It is up to you to fight to find a market place for your topic. If you really have an interest in this topic then you ARE capable of putting all your efforts and energy to present something that people will like. It requires a lot of patience, time, effort and probably little money but it’s worth it at the end. My suggested plan is, before you finalize your eBook, conduct a serious market survey to collect as much information as you can about your competitors, how many of them around, how many visitors do they receive, what age category, gender category, social category, study the ways contents are displayed, what are the methods used to attract people attention to the contents. By obtaining this information you’ll have the advantage to avoid your competitors’ mistakes, learn from their successful methods, plus adding something “different” that will provide an exclusivity to your product. Good Luck! |

Yeah, weight loss is a huge field with lots of competition. So niche it down. "Weight Loss For Weekend Dads: Getting Fit So You Can Have More Fun When It's Your Time With The Kids" "Busy Executive Fitness Guide: Make A Better Impression Without Wasting Time At The Gym" "Weight Loss For The Full-Time RVer: You Can Get Fit On The Road Without Carrying Tons Of Exercise Equipment" Something like that. Tweak your information to fit a niche market -- and that market will think YOUR information is better than the "generic" stuff, for sure. Jay Jennings |

I'd say that is a HEAVILY SATURATED market. Definitely assess the competition FIRST before you start anything and ensure you have a way to get seen in the crowd of other weight loss information and products. If you can't come up with a position that will get you noticed - I would abort... js |
