Monetize site with young male demographic

Hi,

I run Adsense on one of my most popular sites - 50k+ uniques pcm and growing. However, you'd find it hard to imagine how little it earns. I have sites that earn 100x what this one does!

Anyway, the site is kind of science/nature/dark (hence young male demographic) but clearly Adsense isn't working for me.

Any suggestions how I can monetize this niche more effectively.

Thanks,
Chris

How young? (Old enough to have credit-cards and/or PayPal accounts?).

Science/nature and "dark" sound like fairly radically "conflicting" niches, to me, but I may have totally misunderstood what you mean by "dark". Can you describe the content-matter a little more?

What are the main traffic sources, Chris?

      Hi Alexa,

Traffic is all organic, although I do have 10k FB fans with zero engagement?!

The age group according to Google Analytics is 65%/35% M/F with the most in the 18-24 group closely followed by 25-34 yo group.
I guess they don't give stats for minors, but I'd guess these would be quite a big proportion.

Content is basically about stuff that will kill you, e.g. sharks, poisons, diseases, nuclear weapons etc.
Which kind of explains the demographic I suppose!

You could try putting some CPA links/banners up.

Gamefly, and other video game CPA (World of Tanks etc) offers. I know Peerfly has both of these and it's pretty easy to get accepted.

I took a quick look and found a Disney Club Penguin and National Geographic 'Animal Jam' offers on cj.com for kids 6-12. They also have Gamefly. You may want to check it out.

Thanks. I'll take a look at Peerfly and building up some relevant, targeted ads.

  • Chris,

Aside from promoting relevant CPA offers -- Have you tried monetizing with video embeds for ad revenues? Sounds like many of your viewers are avid video watchers; and

If you don't want to create your own videos (though Youtube Partner ad revenues pay better than what I'd be recommending here), then:

You can sign up as a Dailymotion Publisher -- This'd allow you to search for relevant videos in their database (currently 2.5 million videos according to their website), embed these videos in your site (code will have your unique syndication key), and earn from ad revenues generated when viewers watch those videos (if those videos have ads, but their API documentation says you can filter the videos to only those with ads)...

      PUA affiliate program.
      Game cheats
Sports betting (depending on your country)
      Dating
CPM banner program for general market items like auto insurance
      Absinthe fountains
      Mortgages
      Kaplan or ITT
      Spotify affiliate

One of the big deal in this demographic segment is science-based. Almost any affiliate program that has that as a lead in should get you some clicks.

Adsense doesn't work for a lot of people, so don't feel bad lol.
I think you've already answered the question yourself. You know the target market, so offer them what they want: girls!!

Put up banner ads for dating/pick-up eBooks. Guys love that stuff
