What to do when I find WSO's that are repackaged blog posts

This forum is mostly about community, getting help and helping others, I think. And I think it realizes its potential in that regard in many of the forums here, especially the main forum.

However, I've noticed over several years that many WSOs are routinely launched that simply repurpose great forum threads or blog posts from other sources that are freely and widely known.

It's something like reading "DISCOVER THE AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH TREATMENT FOR PAPERCUTS!!!!!!!! NEVER BEFORE REVEALED!!!!!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!!" only to find the ebook recommends purchasing bandaids and ointment.

I'm not a big consumer of WSOs, but I very much dislike finding the material authored by my friends and acquaintances online for free being "REVEALED AND EXPOSED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!" for sale in the WSO forum.

Is it about community, getting help and helping others? Or is it about exploiting what one can for however much one can?

Just asking.

Sorry..is it the authors original content? If so, ask for a refund if you don't like it.
If it is not his (or her) content then report the WSO - that is against the rules

No, it's not original content. It's usually swiped from other sources that I can verify.

        WSO rule #1:

        1. All WSO's Must Be Something You Created. A Product Of Your Own. (A package of ebooks someone threw together is not considered a product and will be deleted) This is completely self explanatory and not up for debate. If you yourself did not create the product do not post it here.

        Report it then...

Yes if you are 100% sure that is is not their own material then report it - you can also leave a comment in their wso thread. If you are going to do this though you must be really sure that you are right and not ruining someones reputation on something you THINK could be the case.

Good point Cheryl - you need to be very sure.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have posted a question to the WSO in question and I'm awaiting a reply.

    Thanks very much again.

Valid comments and questions to the WSO thread are the answer. I've been remiss in not posting to WSOs I've purchased that I feel are valueless or fraudulent. The WSO forum would be a better place if buyers posted accurate reviews; negative or positive.

I couldn't agree more. I posted a comment to the WSO in question and am awaiting a response. I noticed that the vendor was online here on the forum for some hours and had read my post, however he/she has yet to respond.

      Thanks very much again.

    Hey there,

Actually, I would first like to know if you're talking
of content plagiarism or the author has rehashed
    the stuff?

If its just been copy/pasted, then the author could
be in trouble. However, as per my thoughts, if you
right it on your own words - Its no problem that way.

I mean, you can find most about article marketing
without paying a penny but people still go for courses
and all because of the way they are presented!

A wise IMer has been qouted as saying:
"Copying from one source is plagiarism, copying from
    many is research!"

If you feel the WSO didn't help you, simply ask a
refund, most warriors are prompt in making a refund
(unless obviously, they're trying to scam you!).

    Hope you get my point.

    Regards,
    ClaytonJ

Have you bought the WSO in question or
are you making assumptions on other
    information?

If you can supply evidence to confirm that
the WSO is someone else's content, then
report the WSO using the report button
AND send your evidence to Admin through
    the helpdesk.

Make sure also that the freely available content wasn't created after the wso went on sale or was created.

Im sure there have been a few cases were people have given up the information found in wso's in blog posts and forums etc without a care in the world.

But the funny thing is that I have seen other WSOs and various IM "stuff" telling people how they don't actually need to author anything of value -- just go out onto the web and aggregate a bunch of content from other places and repackage it as your own.

In theory you can do that and that is what every product is in essence!

99% of things being sold you could count as re-hashed products!

The thing you are paying for most of the time is for someone to have spent their time collecting the information and organizing it in a easy to use and understand order.

Im more than happy to pay a few $ to someone to do that for me so i don't have to spend a few hours or more doing it myself!

^This. While I haven't ever released a WSO, I do utilize this tactic in several markets with great success.

I ***don't*** simply copy-n-paste, but rather actually research using a wide variety of resources (including the local library, a source too many marketers overlook) and then prepare my own unique product.

It works very well because, like Tom pointed out people's time is valuable to them and so they will gladly pay for someone to present the information to them in a logical, easy-to-follow format rather than be hassled with the prospect of trying to find the information in a thousand other different places.

I wondered if i was going to be shot down for stating the obvious after i hit the submit button, but really glad to see its not only me who thinks of ebooks like that, or really any product!

Even frank kern's mass control product was taken from books about the mind and body language, public speaking among other thing's. We all have to learn it from somewhere!

There's a big difference between using sources of information to assimilate a derived product (essentially a "research paper") and blatantly cutting and pasting blog posts as a WSO.

I use many sources to create my products. But I don't copy the stuff outright.
