How Would You Market a Website For a Band?

hey guys,

i play in a band that sells music/merchandise over the internet through our myspace page. we have a new cd coming out in August and i'm looking for some new ways to advertise in a cost effective way.

so far i've been using numerous Friend Blaster Pro accounts/Purevolume Promos but if anyone knows more advanced methods please let me know.

Link Building!

Check GetAFreelancer.com for "link building".

Hire a freelancer.

Pay for as much link building as you can afford. I'd suggest hiring 2-3 freelancers and track your results to see who does the best job.

Keep the good one(s) and dump the other(s).

Link Building can be:

Articles
Press Releases
Web properties (Squidoo, blogs, forums, etc.)
Videos
Podcasts
Etc.

The main way we help bands is to get their own domain name then add a wordpress blog and start posting on a regular basis and this will get you great presence with good linking. You can then use all the above strategies also.

I would advertise them in the "Events" category of music related websites - listing about the band and where they are playing next

I am involved in music and by far the best route for me has been to use social networks. I have over 10,000 contacts on these that I can message instantly.

Facebook is great and so is twitter.

Use the herd mentallity ... focus on looking for groups of peopel who look like your listeners.

I would build as many back links as you can. Even if you have to hire someone to help you do it.

Run contests via twitter, your site, myspace, etc.

Get a page on ALL the music related sites. Contact net radios about giving copies away to listeners.

Hey Jimmy,

My daughter is an upcoming pop singer with thousands of friends on different social sites. (25,000 on Myspace alone) All done organically. NO BOTS.
Over 1.5 million song plays.
She has been featured on magazines, websites (6000 downloads in 24 hours on Myxer)

The way she has done it has been by joining social sites and interacting with her fans. Also by asking for things and one thing leads to another. Right now we are very actively building her list.

You can do it organically. Also get your fans to help you! Fans are a great way to spread the word and get the message out.

I suggest you model someone who actually "did it."

My friend Terra Naomi.....went from a little known chick singing in coffee shops.....to a major record deal....simply by using the power of social marketing...specifically You Tube.

I would also consider the Mark Joyner product mentioned earlier in this thread....as Mark's stuff is always high quality.

I suugest you that you registerd own domain name and word press is used for blog to make back links. update it on regularly bases. Also join social networks like facebook.
