SEM :Might Be The Hottest Online Career Today

Search Engine Marketing (SEM), This is just a dream come true for many online entrepreneurs.

Who would know that what Affiliate Marketing, Adsense advertising and many "making money online" teaches you would automatically make you an "expert" with the greatest value for the Big Brick-and-Mortar-Whales?

I was reading the newspaper one of these days and stumble upon some interesting classifieds in the job section, (as an "outsourcerer" thats is one of my ways to find new customers )
The title of the classified was something like "SEO Expert needed" and on the details part of that classified mentioned many perks featuring some features worthy of a manager position.

I thought, "This people must be desperate to offer all that stuff for something so simple to achieve!!" In fact, I am not going to speak about the details because I simply can't.

The point of bringing that up is, that I am not a Search Engine Marketer per se. I only use my knowledge for my own ventures, but I managed to earn a couple of thousands of dollars by offering my "limited" knowledge on the subject.

I became a "consultant". At least that was what they asked me to write down the bill I had to give them. I simply used a couple of routine tricks to help them with their Search Engine Ranking.

They were more than happy with the second position showed for week on Google.com

In fact, I check from time to time and they are still there. To be honest, I worked less than two hours with them. The competitors weren't as hard to override.

Since then, I've managed to make a couple of contracts on similar situations. However, as I have explained, I am not an expert. I know more than the marketing managers, I give you that, but I don't have the knowledge I would love to have.

On the other hand I have witnessed how some company, with a couple of weeks of existence became number one in their niche by the hand of a real expert. Who I learned later, charged them more than $400 an hour, which I guess is a low price compared with those with more knowledge.

I did better with my business but it was more out of ignorance on the current rates than anything else. They didn't ask me how much time I used to manage their account. I just did it, they were happy, and I took a short "vacation" with my wife and kids. Awesome uh?

Some of my friends at the pub, use to tease me when I get this unexpected gifts, they call me names relative to "male prostitute" to put it in a rather non-offensive way. It sounds offensive whatever you put it though. LoL!

Well, My point is, there is a huge market of hunger companies demanding for this kind of service.

What are you waiting to Help Them Help You?

Go find those whales and come here telling your war stories!

Don't start with "Call me Ismael .... " please....

Yep! It was a costarrican company. And that's all I can share here because I don't want some smart guy mess up with the "work" I did

Do you have any experience with this sort of thing yourself Russ?

Jaco? Great. If you are interested in learning Spanish, I am starting this site for a couple from New England. IntercambioAmericas Dot com.

It is based on a common practice on Europe. Do you have that in Canada as well?

Not sure what 'that' is - the site is only coming up in Spanish as the .net

I am definitely interested in learning spanish.

        Sorry to hijack your thread....

          Don't worry about that "hijacking".

About the site, top right you have the option to choose English or Spanish. Once you create an account it will always show the language logged in your account.

But anyway, the best about living in Costa Rica is how cheap everything is here compared with other locations around the world. You could live like a king with $1500 a month. Or less depending on your hobbies. I mean , habits

Of course, the less "foreigner" you look, the less money you'll be charged. You better send a local do the deals. The poorer he looks like the best for your pocket if you know what I mean.

Long story short, we have no army, and taking apart the regular burglars you find anywhere in the world, it's rather a paradise on earth. We don't know what snow is by the way, which is good if you like the tropical way of life. (Its not so hot where I live near the center of the country though)

Jaco is great choice. In case you are interested, My aunt is selling some properties near my house. (we live about 4 hours from Jaco) There is a whole brand new house on sale for about USD$211,000. And some lots ready to build on. I work also as an architectural draftsman in case you are interested. (Building permits and the whole story ) MonteAltoRealEstate.com

You see, it's not as bad to "hijack" from time to time. It gave me an excuse to advertise some of my stuff as well. LoL!

Thanks Paul...I will do my best to look like a Tico then.

I would much rather live near the ocean which is why I want to visit Jaco.

If you are ok with it, maybe I will pick your brain before I go..

The issue here is that there's a MASSIVE difference between knowing about SEM and being an expert.

Almost all IMers understand a bit about SEM and a few understand a lot - but they're still no-where near what a proper SEM expert can offer.

You can earn 6 figures working as an SEM manager for a lot of companies, the money is there - but those positions are not looking for people who understand SEM from a working at home or making Adsense perspective.

It's true that there are a lot of small businesses that need the level of info that a lot of IMers have, but SEM is an area where you need focus, knowledge and a decent budget just to have access to the best tools around and a good understanding of the metrics those tools use.

It's easy for IMers to get fooled into thinking they're SEM experts just because they know about link building and marketing, but it's like the difference between a school kid who's read about marketing and someone who's just finished an MBA and worked for a few companies putting their knowledge into action.

The same goes for other areas like copywriting - you can learn about it as an IMer and test what works for you -but that doesn't make you an expert and able to help big companies be profitable.

    nothing to see here.

      Tell me about it Andy!!

I totally agree with you. In fact, that is my point, and right now, after those experiences I mention, I know for a fact that I am far from being a real "expert".

Now, the point of the story is: What are the Odds? Just imagine what anyone could achieve by learning the trade properly... The sky is the limit.

I am very ignorant of the real SEM practices. All I do is no secret: (Answering another post about what did I do with those cases) Article submiting, Social bookmarking, Forum posting and all the normal stuff. In fact, I didn't use PPC at all.

Of course, you (Andy) as a professional SEM, must infer from the facts provided, that the niche didn't have many competitors. This helped me a lot on my task.

Right now, I am on the way to become the best SEM on the world. (I need to think that way because of my "Law of attraction therapy ")

Also, I am using some great advice and coaching from other real experts on the field. I'll share my knowledge once I reach my goal.

      Russ
You can pick my brain whenever you need to. I am starting a section about Costa Rica and a topic at the forum soon. You could ask there in order to help me with my site. The link is at my sig of course.
