Need a photo for an alter-ego

I need a photo of a person, which I can photoshop, to be my representation for my alter-ego personality on the blog site im making. What's the best way to do this? I know that this is common practice among affiliate bloggers, but wasn't sure how to do it best. I realize this probably sounds stupid

    Buy an image from photoshop.

Alternatively, you can use photo of people around you but ensure you seek for their consent first.

Morgue files has free pics... Not sure what your 'alter ego' looks like, but I'm sure a few of mine could be found on their website.

Seriously though, I used a family members pic ( with their permission of course) and you could try and sift through some stock paid sites... But doing that may eventually leave visitors scratching their head if they put the connection together... I just use avatars, or a graphic if I dont want my perty mug in the spotlight.

The way I've always done it is to start from photos of myself, and have them redone by graphic designers on Fiverr in the form of cartoons, silhouettes and drawings, so that I'm not recognizable from them.

I started off doing this in 2008, when I was 18 and looked about 15, because I didn't want visitors thinking things like "Hold on, this chick's too young to be an expert on this subject" - in other words, just as an "age concealment trick", and now I've continued doing it for additional reasons, too. It's always worked well for me, requires no skills and costs almost nothing.

Be very careful indeed, if using pictures of other people, and always read very carefully the fine print of the terms of service of sites from which you take them, because the type of usage to which you refer is normally not permitted. Don't imagine that photos being available and royalty-free means that this is necessarily a permitted use!

  • If you need a photo for free - take a picture of your family member and make sure that he/she is OK with you using it for your blog.

If you know how to use Photoshop, take your own pic and photoshop it heavily. Take some hairstyle from Google images and replace it, put on glasses, add some wrinkles etc.

If you’re willing to spend some money, try buying a photo from iStockPhoto or Shutterstock or any other stock photo website.
I would not recommend sending your pic to someone on Fiverr, there's no guarantee that you’ll get high quality realistic result. Good graphic designers cost more than $5. You can hire one at some freelance website, but I don’t see any reason to pay a lot to graphic designer in this case. I’d rather buy an image from some photo stock.

Almost never can you use an image you buy or one you get for free from a photo site in a way that implies endorsement of a particular product or as the representation of another person - you.

You need a person's permission for this. Taking a picture of you and transforming it in Photoshop is probably the best and safest way to do this. Using another person's image without their permission and getting caught, especially in a commercial enterprise will cost you a lot of money.

For the reasons explained so clearly in posts #4 and #6 above, Alexandr, that would typically be a big mistake.

You could also pay someone to lend you their "image". I've done it with good results.

Another vote for fiverr and getting someone to draw your alter ego from scratch.

It's easier to get a picture of someone you know (ask permission first)

Why do you need an alter-ego? Is there a legitimate business reason I'm not thinking of?
