Something finally hit me

I've had some time on my hands this week so took the opportunity to do some reading. As I was doing so I came across something that could really help my fledgling IM online career and maybe also help many frustrated newbies. More especially those who come on here wondering why they're not making any cash. There's lots of help on here about that but I think many don't quite pick up on something thats not always obvious when advised to forget about the money and taking massive action.

The two books I got through were on sports psychology and included my personal favorite, Slaying the Dragon by Olympic champion Michael Johnson.

In essence he talks about how everyone thinks athletes simply turn up and run using a natural talent. This is the same as the presumption that people make that simply putting anything on the internet will see cash pumping into their bank account.

Johnson spends virtually the whole book talking about how his success is the inevitable consequence of his training plan. How his goals come to fruition because he works his plan (or process) which are his mini goals. The hours in the weights room, the track hours and how he trained on a track in a downpour when everyone else stayed home. What you saw at the Olympics was merely the end product of all those things coming together in a carefully planned schedule.

The thing both he and the author of the other book mentioned, was that you need to enjoy the process and throw yourself into it. While you're going through it, all your focus should just be on the process. When you're in the process (and I mean really in it), you hit your flow, your zone and it doesn't feel like work. It doesn't feel like work or a pain in the backside because you not thinking about what still needs doing.

How does this relate to my and your online careers? Quite simple. This is how you hit the top.

Your cash is your olympic final. Your process is each of the stages you need to go through (keyword research, your product development or affiliate product research, your traffic building, understanding your competition).

The cash (your Olympic final), will be a consequence of you going through and giving your all to the process.
When you're right in it you'll do as good as you know how to. You won't be casting half an eye on getting to the money. Once you've completed one stage, move onto the next and stay focussed.

As you do this, you'll be training your self discipline which is going to be vital to keep you on your path and to stop you jumping in and buying the next make money product.

What I learned?

I started this and got myself right into my keyword research. I also started to become more aware of other things I should do. For my keywords, there's some competition. That's now my sub goal - to build something that gets a better position than my keyword competition. The money has dropped out of my thinking. If I get this sub goal right and the by focussing on the process that contribute to achieving that position then I'll have done everything I can have done. What I will do, is fully immerse myself in the process.

If I do that and it's a buying market, then money should come in. If it doesn't then it's more likely to be because it's not a buying market and less likely it was anything I did or didn't do.

Learn to enjoy the process and give each part of it your all. This will start to take away the stress of wondering why you're not making any cash.
