Which Converts Better ~ Affiliate Site or Own Website?

If a direct affiliate link is allowed or redirect as with ezines...is it better to send the consumer to your own website for more info and then a link to the website or directly to the affiliate ad page?

Thanks!

Send them to your website first. A lot of merchants won't paid you your commission unless the sale came from your website.

      Not true.

You can use third party sites like squidoo or blogger to post your content and place your affiliate link there.

It really depends on your niche. There are some products where it would be better for you to link directly to the merchant and there are others where you will want to presell the visitor before sending them to the merchant site.

    Presell!! Presell!!! Presell!!!

You can use a free website like weebly.com to build your presell landing pages if you don't have your own site.

I am going to go out on the vague limb here and say that there is really not a clear cut winner between the two. The only way you will have a definitive answer is if you test and track your results.

Watch ir, you're treading in dangerous water when you suggest to actually test instead of going on "instinct".

As I said before - some merchants will not pay you if the traffic does not come from your own site!

    From the Commission Junction TOS:

You may not place Links to an Advertiser's Web site or Web site content in third party newsgroups, message boards, blogs, unsolicited email and other types of spam, link farms, counters, chatrooms, or guestbooks.

Publishers using IRC channels, instant messages or similar Internet resources must designate their program as special requiring manual review and acceptance by the Advertiser.

    SAS TOG:

NOT ALLOWED: All other uses of banners or links, such as newsgroups, chat rooms, ICQ, message boards, banner networks, hit farms, counters, or guestbooks etc. are NOT allowed.

I mostly make and sell my own products - which is what I recommend - but if affiliate marketing I would usually route directly to the sales letter after making sure it is a good one.

I do that by adding a link to one of my sites, e.g. www.myaffiliatemarketingsite.com/product.html Note: That is not a real site or URL.

And then using some .htaccess tricks to route to the sales letter.

Otherwise you can make your own effective sales letter and add a pay link with your affiliate ID embedded.

I never use landing pages - too much dilution - the stats do not add up.

From my own view, I think it is better to send consumers to own website, thereby making the site known/popular and also attracting more consumers to own website and promoting your business. But you can add Affiliate Ad to own website.

Preselling is the way to go IF you know what your doing. If you do not create good presell pages this can be more hurtful that helpful. The affiliate landing pages have been tested to convert so they work. If you can make a good presell page and don't mind the extra work then that is the way to go otherwise find ways to direct link to the offer.

Get them to your own site and build it up in the SERPS then you really have something to show for it. Also, make sure that you have an opt in box on your site so you can build your list.
