Auto-Play Video On Websites

Hi All

I am curious - what's the general consensus on auto-play video on a page?

I have noticed more and more sites doing it - especially the commercial ones like news sites that are auto-playing their video but as either just as an advertisement or as an ad before the content starts.

I understand their methodology but I am interested in how it is received.

It raises a second question for me as well:

Is anyone here currently integrating ads into their videos?

I know it works on commercial sites but what about for the rest of the world?

I am curious on the success of this and what the drop-out rates are before the video or ad finishes.

It would be great to hear some thoughts on this.

Cheers

Brad

I personally really do not like auto-play video on websites. It's true that it's somewhat acceptable these days on commercial sites, but I still find it annoying. I don't think I've ever seen a good blog that's had auto-play videos.

But I'm also interested in what other people have to say too.

I think it improves conversions but you would have to test. I personally don't like it. Some of those have almost given me a heart attack when they blasted some sound I wasn't expecting.

Often times I'm somewhere that I don't appreciate a video or audio auto playing. ( StarBucks, airport, when my family is sleeping, etc )
