Making Money with Existing Ecommerce Skills?

I started working for a small ecommerce business back in 2009, and they recently relocated to another state and I was unable to move with them, so I am looking to start my own online venture but I am not sure where to start.

While working for this business I managed all aspects of sales and marketing, and helped grow the company to $1.5 million in yearly revenue. I can't take credit for everything, but I was a huge part of this business and helping them grow.

My goal is to use my existing skills to either start a consulting business or start my own online commerce business, but I am totally lost as what to sell and where to start.

Making a website is not a problem, I just can't decide what to sell. I have looked at several profitable niches, but without a huge capital investment I am leaning more towards drop-shipping or affiliate marketing.

What do you guys think? How can I make some money using my existing knowledge and skills?

I think you can make money with Drop Shipping . Because drop ship has many advantages. The advantages of drop ship is:
    # You don’t need a lot of time, or at least not as much as you think.
    # You don’t need money to start an online business.
    # You do need some skill, but in this day and age that is easy to come by.

well don't put all your eggs in one basket..

If I were you i'd start with a dropshipping site, and use the profits to invest in your own products to sell, and continue opening new commerce stores every 4 months or so..

If you are confident with your skills, why not find yourself an investor/financier? If you got what it takes and you can convey that to another individual with money, you wouldn't have any problem finding your capital.

If you don't want to have anybody else in your pie, start small then grow from there.

TheWriteOne had a great idea. You could also consider a joint venture with someone who has the capital but not the business experience you have.

My other idea would be start as an affiliate or dropshipper in the niche you would eventually like to build your eCommerce site in and as you grow it you can use your earnings to fund the eCommerce site.
