Newbie Advice - First Steps in Passive Income

We're considering using Opus Pro to create some free web apps and setting up a website for them to get passive/incremental revenue from Adsense and the like. However, we want this to be distinct from the Digital Workshop brand even though we don't get a lot of hits for that "brand" anyway - so it will be a different site which raises some questions about how to proceed.

Is it best to get Adsense etc in place for the launch or get visitor numbers up first?

Will we have problems getting Adsense etc for an unproven site?

Or should we use our existing site to get the accounts and then use it on the new site - if that's even possible?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Paul

they review your site before you get accepted so make your site fully complete and functional before you apply, or else you'll get rejected

You are 100% right! Make sure your site has a good amount of quality and unique content. Good luck.

Thanks - content is not going to be an issue for us we can produce unique material very easily with our software but the marketing and traffic generation will be.

I wonder if it might be better to sell the sites and content on to someone who can make the money from them perhaps? Does that happen?

I have some advice you. Unless you have a lot of traffic, you will make pennies. All that hard work will earn you less than minimum wage. Also, it is hard to know what will go viral in coming years. Most books on kindle lose money. Also, this is the case for most apple apps. Yeah, it was even the case for computer games years ago. Basically, it is a combination of good luck and hard work that brings in earning. However, you will find that the harder you work, the luckier you get.

  • With Adsense, the hardest part is getting the consistent traffic all the time, so getting accepted also requires having several followers or plenty of visitors.

    Best of luck.

I also recommend using your site to monetize for other ways to make money just so that you only increase your chances at making more money,

Things like affiliate marketing, the Amazon associates program, and any other form of content can make you a boatload of cash when you properly target your site.

Another problem with Adsense is that the payout (cost per click) could vary depending on many factors, so with the same traffic, same CTR, your earnings might dip without any warning. It happened on one of our less-monetized sites, and nothing we did could turn that around. The best suggestion may be to not put all your eggs in the Adsense basket

Thanks - I thought Amazon and affiliate marketing might be the way to go. I mentioned Adsense because that's the one I know but also I heard Google can get particularly temperamental and we don't want anything we do with this to have a negative bearing on the (already pitiful) search position for the main business.

If you want to write. Write kindle ebooks. Adsense 0.5% CTR for me. Trying to improve. But ya everything depends on niche you are using.

Just shows how little I know - hadn't even considered Kindle books using Adsense - have no idea how that might work. Sounds like lots of research to do yet And I thought we'd be rich by lunchtime
