Why subscribe to my list 12 times?

I don't understand... What gain is there for a spammer to subscribe 12 times using 12 different e-mail addresses? I need some enlightenment here, as someone just did exactly that. Whats the financial merit for the spammer?

    Or to drive your complaint rate up, or attempt to get your domain blocked at various ESPs, or signing up some spamtrap accounts to get you on some blacklists, or to monitor your general deliverability and steal whatever content gets through. Email's a dirty business occasionally.
