It really depends on the effort you're willing to put in, and the avenue you want to use to make money. There's a lot of proven ways to make money online, but they all take a different type of commitment. The best way I teach my clients is affiliate marketing through content marketing, and also in team building. Which area is your passion?

That's probably the worst choice. Why would you want to build an entire online store designed to capture 2-4% commissions? There are affiliates out there that pay twenty times that much.

          First, they pay 4 - 8.5% commissions, not 2 - 4%.

Secondly, that's perhaps a little exaggerated, but the main point is the differential in conversion-rates.

Which would you rather earn: 6% of something with a 20% conversion-rate, or 60% of something with a 1% conversion-rate?

It's a few years since I left high school, now, and I know there's all this "new math" about, these days, but it seems to me that one produces twice as much income as the other, and it isn't the higher-commission item? Call me old-fashioned, but in my opinion, when you're running a business, income is more important than commission-rates alone.

Then how do you account for the fact that in a field of endeavor (affiliate marketing) with pretty low overall success-rates, so many Warriors are successfully making their full-time livings as Amazon affiliates?

Please excuse my questions, here: you obviously have real experience in IM, and I welcome and appreciate your posts here, generally, and I think you're adding plenty of value to this forum, so please forgive my commenting that on this occasion, a wheel may perhaps have come off your normally interesting and impressive reasoning?

To be fair, you need to define "success" and "full time living" to make this an actual discussion.

For some, that could be $10k a year...and that's awesome....because it is a success. Comparing those experiences to those comfortably making six figures is not fair though. That's like saying a Girl Scout sitting in front of WalMart for a couple of hours is just as successful as Nabisco because they both sold some cookies.

Let's do the math though on your theory, just to see how it plays out. Let's say that both you and I build a website from scratch to sell...heck, I don't know....let's sell kids apparel.

You build your site around being an amazon associate and I build mine as an actual brand. Both our sites look identical, and for the heck of it let's say that I sell the exact same clothes, backpacks and accessories that you do. The only difference is that your commission is 4-8% and mine is 20-200%. And again, I am selling the identical products as you, regardless of how many different sellers you feature.

How? I'm going to contact those sellers on Amazon and ask them to sell to me directly, which saves them around 8-12% right off the top. Then I'm going to try to go a step further and contact the manufacturers directly to buy at wholesale prices, and I am going to reach out to all the Lolly Wolly Doodle's of the world and inquire about featuring their clothing lines on my site.

Eventually, I will find a small business that sells to specialty boutiques and I am going to make them rich...while I make myself rich in the process. All because I knew not to take the 4% from Amazon or the 20% from Commission Junction. Because my time is worth more than that and if its going to be a full time job, I'm going to clear 200k from it.

Will I work harder? Definitely. But I'm also making a heck of a lot more than you per sale. Now, there's no sense in talking about how much we actually sell because that has nothing to do with the vendor at all; it's how we market our businesses, engage our customers and ultimately create a buying frenzy.

Without doing anything though, neither of us make a single penny...and that's the bigger lesson here for everyone learning. Regardless of how you monetize your website, it takes a lot more than saying, "Here's my stuff" to get the sales churning. If you're going to do all of that work anyway though, it is senseless to settle for pennies when you can be making serious money.

I hope that helps. I know I'm new to the forum so the veterans have the urge to "call me out", but I'm just not the type of person who will intentionally agree with bad advice just to feel like I fit in. Giving bad advice definitely won't do anyone favors here.

Well, predictably enough, I'm going to respond by saying that this probably makes your example unrealistic. Granted, it's very difficult indeed to produce examples that aren't, though.

My point was simply that the Amazon commissions which you're dismissing as too low to be worthwhile can be coupled with some very high conversion-rates which make them worthwhile, that plenty of people make a living from it, and that what matters is incomes, not commission percentages. And to correct the "2% - 4%" you mistakenly mentioned to "4% - 8.5%" (the actual commission-rates ).

Honestly, I hadn't sold anything as an Amazon Affiliate for about 12 years now, so I didn't know that they had finally increased it. It used to start at 2.00% and capped for most around 4.75%, with the power sellers being able to get up in the 6-8% range. And like you said, if you're making tons of sales then it adds up nicely.

The point I was trying to make is that ANY AFFILIATE service goes to companies, works out a commission in exchange for mass publicity, and then gives a fraction of that to the advertisers. So you're handing them a portion of your revenue just for making one phone call or to send one email, and that doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint. You can send those emails yourself, build your own partnerships and make a whole lot more in the process.

Because as sites grow in popularity you'll eventually want to take on a small staff and you can't do that on Amazon Affiliate rates...there's just not enough left over. That means you're stuck manually updating your site daily and pushing for those sales...that's more of a job than an actual business.

Anyway, it was nice chatting and don't worry, I didn't take any offense. I've been sick with the flu and unable to work for about a week now, so I decided to check out what kinds of marketing forums exist these days. I enjoy helping people that are willing to help themselves and actually learn, so that's why I brought up the whole Amazon thing. It was nothing personal.

I am suspecting either, people do not want new players in amazon affiliate market or trying to promote other affiliate programs.

My commission rate is never below %6.5 for years and making about $2000 montly with 2200 clicks and 1600 unique visitors. Can you show me other program with such conversion rates.

As long as you choose a legitimate business model, there is no "best" way to make money online. The "best" way depends on what you're into. I'll give you some examples. I personally like niche blogging because I like the residual aspect that a blog provides, the fact that I can work around my own schedule (not good with deadlines), and can use it to create multiple income streams from one blog via list building and so on.

I know some people that are trained writers (went to school for English or journalism), and they love doing stuff like being a ghostwriter, making money with Kindle or having their own Private Label Rights stores. Even though they might blog, they don't necessarily do it to make money. They just use them as online journals talking about what they did that day and what not.

In your time online, you've probably come across some of these methods. You just need to pick one (or something else), and stick with it until you get it right.

      Plenty of it

It took a lot of learning, and a heap of persistence, but if you want it bad enough, it is there for the taking.

Pick a business model that suits you and work your butt off until you master it.

      Keep this i mind:

There are so many methods it can be hard at times but you need to find a way that suits you or you will get knowhere, you need to work to your stregnths.

You can't just build a site and expect it to do well as you also need to look at the competition and how you are going to beat them, so you should also do a bit of research on seo for your site if you still go down that route.

I could probably go on a lot longer but hope you get the drift, making money online can be easy but can be made very hard by what we do or sometimes what we don't do ourselves.

We have all been where you are, why not create a blog and share what you are doing from there not only will you learn but you will get others following you that you can help too, from there you can build a list of subscribers that will want to hear what you have to say as anoher method to make money.

There is no one "best" way to make money online. Your success with an online business all depends on your mindset and focus.

I did start with affiliate marketing and was able to make some decent commissions back in the day when Amazon first started. I have made a living with my writing/blogging services for the past 10 years.

What I like about affiliate marketing in particular is that you don't have to create a service or product from scratch. You promote other people's products and make commissions. There are so many ways that you can market your product for free nowadays, so you don’t have to lose any money.

Let's not forget if you sell a product that's your inventory you will have to collect TAX a sales tax in most areas and coming to all sooner or later. Now do you want all that extra paper work or just collect a commission. I personally don't wont to be a tax collector.

If you don't have a passion or genuine interest in something then affiliate marketing would be a choice that can work. It also helps if you are interested in what you are being an affiliate for but it's not quite necessary. Also important to do your research on the things you are promoting and actually know about them.

To many people affiliate market blindly and usually end up killing any reputation they might have had by doing so.

You know, everyone has their different techniques and strategies to make money online. When you ask questions like this you're inviting everyone to share their personal techniques which turns into a confusing mess of people spamming different strategies everywhere. It'll confuse you.

I don't know what type of business you're interested in creating so I can't recommend any strategies. But I know for sure if you solve legitimate problems then you'll be able to make a lot of cash online. Good luck.

You need to work in developing your Brand. Your full name can be your Brand or a business name can be your Brand. And have a Plan in place that will guide you and your Brand.

It takes time but if you are diligent and continue to work everyday it will happen if you have that Plan and System in place.

When you lost money, it means someone else earn money. Very easy equivalence.

Writing articles is a surefire way as long as you get accepted by an ad network and pick the right niche. If you can create quality content, AdSense is the way to go. If not, you can use various copy-and-paste techniques to monetize with InfoLinks.

  • I am earning money form the Online sector, there is no doubt about it. I have been working in this field for a long time. Of course it is a good way to earn a handsome amount of money. If you want to invest again, you can buy a domain & hosting, then try to increase Page rank. You also create unique content. by which visitor come again & again to your site. then try to use the affiliate program. Thanks.

  • It depends on your abilities or what services you can provide and if you are comfortable to spend some hours working in freelance websites you can get some jobs and earn some money.
You said that you have tried and failed, now take that experience and use it to improve your techniques.

I do, and my advice is to follow down a path that feels right to you. Look at your hobbies, your skills and your interests. If you can find anyway to use any of these to bring a valuable service to people, then you can make money from that.

I was in the same position on beginning... I was struggling until I cam across traffic business model. Have you ever heard about selling traffic to other marketers? This is totally opposite to what all marketers out there are doing.

Selling traffic is like selling gas – do you ever see the guys at Shell stopping you on the road to make a pitch for their gas?
No. They don’t have to. You need gas and they know it. It’s the same with traffic. All businesses need traffic and that’s why it sells like crazy (even if you suck at marketing it.

First of all, you need traffic to sell.

Have you ever heard about selling traffic to other marketers? This is totally opposite to what all marketers out there are doing.
No, it most certainly isn't. I could sit here for hours listing marketers who sell traffic to other marketers.

Yup, same here. Why try to strike gold when you can sell the picks and shovels? That's what I believe anyway and that's why I got back into the traffic and advertising business...because everyone needs it no matter what you do online.

Yes, it is very possible to make money online.

To do that, you need to know the absolute basic fundamentals.

    Money = Traffic + Offer + System

In Dan Kennedy's words, it's Market + Message + Medium, which are the 3 M's.

These 3 things are what you need in order to make money. Anything missing, and you'll find yourself lost.

In niche websites (or Amazon product review sites), the Market (Traffic) is the people interested in the product. The Message (Offer) is your product and reviews. The Medium (System) is the website and SEO you do to get your Message (Offer) to your Market (Traffic).

In affiliate marketing, the Offer is the product you're promoting. The Traffic is the audience or market you're selling to. The System is the email, website, or webpage you're using to get the message to your market.

That initial shared thread was interesting - and i'm sure this is a question that has been answered plenty of times.

Good on the OP for putting their hand up, and good luck to you sir. The internet is a big place with lots of opportunity.

I currently make money with amazon in the fashion niche and I drive traffic from Pinterest.

It's not the fastest way to make money but I enjoy building a website and promoting it for free.

it took me 5 years before i made my first £ online, i didnt cash that adsense check, ive kept it to remember how hard i work.

4 years after that cheque arrived, i quit my job and now make more than my 9-5 was paying a month, in a week, and moved from the UK to Thailand.

A lot of it is perseverance, and the rest of it is finding something that works and hammering it hard until it's worn out and you've made the most of it.

Yes, I do. I earn around 5K $/ month online.

If you have any skill, you can start freelancing.
There is a LOT of ways to earn from online. What you need is to stick with ONE and work heard to reach goal.

The problem is, and always has been, not sticking to one thing. I barely made anything for three months on ebay, and then it happened quickly. Be prepared to stick to ONE thing for a while, and keep at it until you have exhausted all possibilities of making it work.

If you have a skill, sell it on Fiverr. Invest in selling your services on Warrior Forum. Once you have enough to pay for coaching in your chosen niche e.g. digital goods sales, Seo etc. go for it.

Sometimes you feel like you're working for nothing, but its worth it. You'll be working towards something, and that is eventually money in the bank.

You did not mention here, in which way you tried. I am sure, there are many people who lead their life by earning money from the online section. I have been earning from this sector since 15th April, 2011 till now. I am really happy with my earnings. It is a big opportunity to me. Here I would like to suggest you, you should do that work, where you are expert/ skilled. Such as I know how to make a web page design , graphics design & SEO. So I am doing in these sector. If you want to do anything, you need to have some skills. Without any skill, you may not success. so please be skill, then try to do work. best of luck.

You can make money online very easily when you first understand what and how it is you are making the money. Supply and demand!

Your using the Internet to have access to people who are searching or interested in your products and services.

Today people are spending money online in just about any area you can think of but of course there are certain markets that perform better online.

You can sell both physical and digital goods. Selling a physical product in my experience is a lot, lot easier just for the simple fact that you can tie an emotion to a physical product easier to something you can not see. The downside is commissions are a lot, lot lower because of the overhead cost. Digital items like ebooks and software programs pay a much higher commission but they can be more challenging to convert into buyers.

In the end it it does not matter if your selling something or getting paid for something like a CPA or cost per action offer, something as easy as getting somebody to enter their email for something it all comes down to getting targeted, quality eyeballs. There are plenty of networks that have the traffic your looking for its just up to us marketers to find where the traffic is at for your market and niche.

Edit: It seems weird how people say it took them months to make money online. My first 72 hours I made my first sale..

Because not every one has the motivation to make money online hence sometimes it takes months of years before they make a sale.
