Am I doing something wrong with my Amazon affiliate link

In my article, I have contextual links to search result on amazon. I go to amazon, then click "link to this page" in the top stripe/tool bar that amazon has when you're an affiliate.

When I click the link, my affiliate tag is there, but those are just search results. So when i click a product from said search results, the tag is gone. So am I missing something here? Do I have to link to individual products in order to get commissions? Why can't things be simple (rhetorical question )

Also, why the heck does it include a bloody image tag!

The first link with your affiliate sets the cookie that lasts 24 hrs. After that, your cookie does not follow them around in he links when they view products but the affilaite cookie that was set tracks their actions and purchases for you.

You only need the bold part. They often include pop-ups in their contextual link code too. You can get the basic affiliate link from inside any of their link options.

I took this link out of the code you provided above:

    <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF...90957&linkCode =ur2&tag=yomama-20&linkId=W5UQKWQQBM6PVNKT">example</a><img src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=yomama-20&l=ur2&o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

    This link works.

Tracking, basically. Amazon wants as much insight into your visitors as possible and can't calculate your CTR without first knowing the number of ad/link impressions.
