I just wondered if anyone is seeing a slump in business during the last few weeks of snow, I am based in the UK however the majority of my sites are focused on the U.S.

I see from the weather reports that the U.S has had some huge amounts of snowfall, my legal and health service businesses have all seen a significant drop in sales. I was wondering if it because travel is difficult right now?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

We are to busy shoveling snow. We do have a lot of snow and high winds from the east coast of USA up to the atlantic coast of Canada. Some people don't even have power. We been hit a lot with storms the month of February.

  • From what I can tell on the bbc website available at BBC News - US north-east shivers in snowstorms it's snowing heavily in the north east of america and it looks like there is another snow storm on the way so I don't know whether this is affecting your sales but if it is then I think you'll have to wait it out until the weather get's better sorry majestic12

    Majestic,

I can't think of a good reason that snow storms or travel difficulties would affect your sales, especially if you're talking online sales. Unless your web sites deal in, say, tourism in the northeastern states, why would bad weather and cancelled flights cause a sales drop?

To my way of thinking . . . such weather activities could actually help sales since people are "holed up" with no reasons to be outside and turning to their computers and devices with added regularity while waiting for the weather to break.

So I don't think bad weather is the cause of your sales slump unless your sales are from outdoor recreation and "good weather" type products.

      Hi Steve

I run businesses related to medical and legal services, this requires people to travel so I was thinking maybe the weather is so bad they are waiting for it to ease. I just was unsure as the extent of the weather problems, I know Boston had been hit badly...

We have seen a massive drop in our dental niche, I think folk are staying at home. I think internet sales will not be affected however the health niches will. Hopefully in a week or so the snow will die off. As for your legal niche I would presume that would be the same, travelling to the lawyers office would be difficult in this weather.

Forget travel...a lot of people don't even have power right now. The North has been brutal....Boston has set an all-time record for snowfall and it's still not letting up. They're saying the snow on the ground from two weeks ago won't melt until late April.

Anyway, if people can't charge their digital devices or drive to work, they don't buy business services. Hopefully it's that simple and your business will come roaring back in the Spring.
